Location: Right on Harbord west of Spadina, you will notice the facade first. This is one of several locations. Parking can be had on side streets but comply with the restrictions. Decor: Modern and spacious inside. Unlike some places where you feel uncomfortable being squeezed, this place is relaxing with a large interior, high ceilings, but not at a loss of intimacy. Service: So patient, friendly and genuine, this was one of the best attributes of the evening (for our larger group). Food: I heard it said that, as much as people love Italian food, sometimes people don’t think they will see the value in ordering items that they think are too familiar. I found that even items you might think you know come out with a slight twist. It’s familiar, tasty but done a little differently. We ordered a full range from appetizers to dessert and I had no complaints. Flavours are rich, texture and temperatures were complimentary to the dish. Prices were reasonable for a downtown meal. Overall. We enjoyed it and would recommend.
So disappointing!!
We were fans of Splendido and have had good pizza at the original Piano Piano (Harbord street), so we were excited when a branch opened in the east end. We enjoyed revisiting the patio that we knew and loved from the prior tenant, Gare de L’Est. But the food ranged from just ok to terrible and the server didn’t care one bit. He gave an energetic and obviously rote, “How WAS everything!?” at the end of service, but when after an embarassed pause my husband told him honestly that my “Rigatoni Carbonara” was pretty much tasteless and might have been missing something, his response was “it usually comes with lots of black pepper” (it didn’t), and “can I bring the dessert menu?”. Husband was hungry so he finished the dish (I didn’t eat much, it looked like giant Kraft dinner and tasted like bare pasta), and we weren’t looking to have it comped, but at least an, “I’m really sorry, I’ll be sure to let the chef know” would have been appreciated. For those who love Carbonara, both Ascari and Mercatto have excellent versions. We will not return, at least not unless we hear the place has improved. Really unfortunate as we are Crow’s subscribers and the location is great. Toronto has great Italian places, Victor Barry, pull up your socks!!
Never been to Piano Piano so when my client suggested it
Never been to Piano Piano so when my client suggested it for lunch, I took a look at the menu online and was looking forward to a good meal. It is a small restaurant with interesting decor and ambiance. Server was exceptional offering suggestions and guidance from the menu. We ordered the bone in veal parm, caesar salad and mushroom pasta. The salad was exceptional offering filets of anchovies, braised pork and a sharp dressing. Best caesar salad I have ever had. The mushroom pasta had truffle oil so the flavours were very strong. The bone in veal was amazing, with great portions size and features cured ham under the layers of cheese and sauce. The meal was not just good but exceptional. There is a premium to be paid, but then fair portion size and great flavours were worth the money. No pictures taken because it was a business lunch but the dishes all were visually appealing.
Best italian Restaurant
Piano Piano is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves Italian cuisine with a modern twist. The ambiance is stylish and upbeat, with colorful decor and a lively atmosphere that makes it perfect for both date nights and group dinners. The service was attentive and friendly, and the staff made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in.

Really great food and dining experience! Came here for lunch and they had a great special ($36 for half an appetizer, pizza or pasta and a dessert). Had the burrata to start, carbonara and Nutella tiramisu and it was all delicious! Tried the pizza as well which was also really good
Ok Food.
This busy restaurant has a large and varied menu, ranging from Pasta, Pizza and even main courses like roasted 1/2 Chicken. I ordered the Fritto Misto as an appetizer and the Lobster Cassarecce as my main. The Fritto Misto was basically Calamari, Sea Bass, Shrimp, Artichoke and Zucchini, all deep fried and came with a Parsley, Chili, Garlic and Aioli Dip. This was an interesting dish and was fairly tasty. The Pasta dish I ordered, the Lobster Cassarecce, was disappointing. The Pasta was cooked right and there were a decent amount of Lobster pieces inside, but the dish lacked flavour. It was extremely bland. There was no real distinct taste. I didn’t enjoy this dish. Service and atmosphere was good and prices were reasonable.

Piano piano is no doubt a beautiful restaurant with amazing service but the food and well random kids using the restaurant to race back and forth was not a great dining experience. This is my third time eating here. The first time I thought the food was amazing. The second time it was alright and well this time I'm questioning everything. Was this place really that good? The taste of everything was just disappointing, the quality wasn't great as well. The roasted mushroom salad sounded delicious. It was completely gross. The texture and overall taste was not palatable. I didn't finish it. Now the pasta. The sauce was so thick and clumpy and the taste was ok. I ate the pasta but it really wasn't the taste I expected. The pasta overall wasn't disappointing but it just wasn't the best. The pasta was cooked properly which was a plus! I didn't finish this as well. The Nutella tiramisu. This was a huge disappointment. It did not taste like nutella. There was this chalky taste to it, not sweet. Just chalky. Overall, it was ok. I don't think I'll be back. I keep trying to re-live that first experience where I thought the food was amazing but sadly every single re-visit gets more and more disappointing.
Food was super delicious.
Service was great and ambience was romantic. The pizza was then chewy and crispy at the same time. The pasta was full of flavor and just melted in my mouth. Will be back again for sure.

Loved that all the plates are shareable. We split two pasta dishes and a pizza across three people and left feeling full and satisfied.

The portions were tiny and the quality of the food was meh. Also, I asked for salt and the intelligent waiter brought rock salt that was unusable. Once but never again.

A group of us bought the Black Friday special where if you bought a Piano Piano gift card for $200, you get a gift of $100! 3 of us totalled $390 (including 4 cocktails!). We planned our date night and since we were a large group, we had to do the family special. Let me tell you, I was skeptical about the portions, but wow! There was so much food and each dish was delicious! Each course was delightful and with a distinct flavour palate. I've attached the menu so you can see the list! A diamond in the rough, this restaurant opens up to a beautiful space! Nestled in a super shabby, run down area that they are effortfully trying to gentrify....the potential is there. But it also comes with limited, pricey parking. I quite enjoyed the atmosphere and food, but might go to a different location for my next visit due to the neighborhood.

Bought Piano Piano Frozen Pizzas (Pepperoni + Mushroom And Onion...from Loblaws... The Mushroom Pizza uses artificial ingredients (Mono and DiGlycerides which is edible plastic product in there white sauce and cheese) + Carbomethyl??? Polysorbate 80??? WHY WHY WHY I willl never again buy or go to Piano Piano based on their using FAKE INGREDIENTS! Not needed - SHAME ON YOU!!
Wow-but not for the right reasons
I try and be honest in all my reviews. I thought about a ‘1’ rating here, but maybe that would look bitter or false….as it is I have never given or even contemplated a ‘2’. I recently visited the newly opened Piano Piano at 1190 Dundas Street East, Toronto. I started off a bit prejudiced when we turned up with a res and there was no table ready. Having got a table we were not offered drinks until one of the four of us asked a server. Not only were the other diners not offered a drink, the drink was delivered and still three out of four had not been offered anything. Having asked another server we duly got drinks and ordered. We shared a starter of burrata which was quite good (probably why I gave the experience a ‘2’). The others said their mains were ok-sorry I can’t agree. I ordered rigatoni carbonara. I feel uncomfortable sometimes at the size of portions in general in North America-no problems here, it would have been a child’s meal even in the UK! Two servers bought the dishes to the table, all held with napkins to avoid getting burnt. Or not as the case may be? My plate was cold and the food luke warm. I like food and I enjoy eating out but I am no food critic, however, I can quite happily say this was the worst value plate of food I have been served for a long time. I have always thought carbonara was a soul warming, unctuous sauce served piping hot on fresh pasta-this dish was miles away. I did ask for some black pepper-there was none on the table-and this never arrived. My girlfriend ordered a glass of wine and was told there was only house red when there seemed to be others-as we found out later. We shared a dessert as by this time I was impatient to get out-I was paying the whole bill! I suppose the last nail in the coffin was using the restroom on the way out there was a line up of four people…so I went to the pub! To me it was clearly obvious that this place was newly opened. The staff were not familiar with each other or the procedures of the restaurant-I honestly believe that our server, although very nice had never worked in a restaurant before-if she had not, it’s not her fault. At one stage there were eight servers in view, when nobody was offering us a drink-because nobody had ‘taken ownership’ of our table. I thought about this review in the restaurant, but what I really wanted to do was have a quiet word with the person in charge and explain my observations……..and that was the biggest problem of all….there was nobody (recognisably) in charge…….so the restaurant gets this review instead.
Decent place to go in the city.
We loved the pink walls on the outside of the building. Everything we ordered was great and adding the truffles on top of the mushroom pizza was chef's kiss. Service was great too. She was friendly and attentive. Otherwise, nothing was outstanding. Good place to meet up with friends, casual date night, and good if you're not too picky.
Valentines Dinner
I usually don’t go out for these Valentines dedicated menus but the food was delicious! We had the set menu but with options to choose. The starters were good and the shared truffle pasta was great!! Mains were also very good! And we finished off with the cheesecake and Nutella tiramisu. The service was good however we did order a bottle of water that never came! Overall it was an enjoyable experience

Tried to book a reservation at this place for my wife's Birthday. They want $20 non-refundable towards food just to book the reservation - NOT HAPPENING!!!

Piano Piano has a division that sells their pizzas directly to other restaurants and grocery stores. We purchase their pizzas to sell at our licensed establishment. Unfortunately they changed their processes and standards earlier this year and the pizzas are not very good any more. We cannot sell them without people returning them. I have reached out to numerous people at the company to discuss but no one has responded so I unfortunately felt it necessary to write this review.
It was amazing.
As a vegetarian, theres lots of options too! And the lunch special is a steal for downtown toronto. Half of an app, main and dessert for $36! Really great food!!! The ambiance is definitely worth commenting on! Its gorgeous inside and customer service is great too! I was also really happy that they did the lunch specials on weekends too!! The truffle mushroom pasta was 10/10! Super heavy and decadent! The hot honey pizza was great ( we removed the pepperoni ofc) and finally the eggplant parmesan was a big hit. The nutella tiramisu and vanilla ice cream were both great as well!

* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
