Tucked away down an alley, Trivoli Tavern feels like an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Reservations are somewhat hard to come by so we were only able to secure ours on the outdoor patio which gave me European vibes with the cobblestones, exposed brick and string lights. The indoor has a dark and rich tavern feel. The menu gives steakhouse vibes, with plenty of proteins and seafood options alongside some handmade pastas. They even have a lobster bar and sushi rolls section of the menu. I appreciated that you could order a carafe of table wine for $19. That was perfect for us but more elevated wines can be had starting around that price for the glass. Between the 2 of us we ordered 3 items and split everything. The half house salad exceeded expectations as far as salads go. The vinaigrette was really tasty and the ingredients were nice and crisp. The Spicy Shrimp Pasta and the Famous Prime Rib completed our order. The crust on the prime rib was really tough and basically inedible but the cook on it was done well and we enjoyed the pasta. Portions here are on the normal size, not overdone, so I was still a little hungry by the time we finished.

RUN!! Get your shoes on NOW and get here for the cheeseburger and the date cake. Not even kidding...this was one of the best burger of my life! (And yes, I read previous reviews and thought "really?!? Best burger ever?). The hype is real. And that date cake...I wanted to lick the plate! Service was friendly and on top of things. Sat in the courtyard. It was a beautiful evening for it.

the bread was an absolute 10/10, the butter was super creamy and the honey added some nice sweetness to it. i could've done without some of the bits of coarse salt but overall good. the crab rangoons were pretty good. the vodka rigatoni was super good as well, very flavorful. we decided to get a dessert because the sticky date cake was recommended and we definitely weren't disappointed. this is musttttt. overall good dinner experience.
The alley way to get to trivoli is cute with the patio
The alley way to get to trivoli is cute with the patio string lights and makes you feel like you're walking down a cobblestone road in rome. the interior is very cozy. It feels like a ralph lauren themed dining room in your family home. Service is professional and kind. Food wise, i don't understand the hype. It was good but nothing spectacular. I did not love what i ordered, the truffle pasta. it was basically buttered noodles. My friend however did enjoy her vodka pasta. If i'm being honest, this restaurant reminds me of a higher end cheesecake factory. it's good and you love to go but there is nothing amazing about it. The sticky date cake, however, is very good, but almost reminds me of the blondie from apple bees (which i love the blondie btw) i believe the hype is purely about the aesthetic which i see.
Really nice restaurant with great food and a unique vibe.
It felt a little rushed and the prices are on the higher side, but I'd definitely go back just for the vodka rigatoni!
I might give Trivoli another try, but my first visit wasn't
I might give Trivoli another try, but my first visit wasn't the best. My friend set up a brunch at Trivoli. The inside vibes are totally different from the outside vibes, so we sat outside, which was great. Our server was okay, but she put my order in wrong and by the time the correct food came out, all my friends had finished their meals. I do appreciate that she made sure the bill was correct. One positive was the gluten free choices, including the gluten free toast and gluten free cornbread. The cornbread was really great and everyone enjoyed it. Everything else was fine, but pretty basic brunch food. Some folks in our party ordered minosas, which they enjoyed. Overall, the spot was fine. Dining outside had great vibes. Again, I may have enjoyed my visit more if my order was correct and I could've eaten with everyone else. The cornbread saved my review from being lower.
Had dinner at Trivoli tavern last Friday night visiting
Had dinner at Trivoli tavern last Friday night visiting from Arizona and it was one of the best meals of my life! The bread, the pigs in a blanket, BEST prime rib I've ever had, and the vodka rigatoni was also out of this world. My husband said his steak was a little dry, but he's pretty picky about restaurant steaks. Also - they were running a little behind with our reservation and the bar service while we waited was so prompt. Highly recommend
Ambience is great, staff was great, appetizers were nice
Ambience is great, staff was great, appetizers were nice and so were pastas. Issue was the steaks. Got the Filet mignon and dry aged bone in NY strip. Filet was dry. I know I ordered medium well, but color was perfect steak was just chewy and dry. Then the strip, this thing was charred. And I mean left char all up in teeth. But steak was cooked great inside. For the price of both those steaks I think that was unacceptable.
Every dish we got was super delicious.
Portion sizes are very good, definitely will have leftovers. We were seated outside and it's so cute out. Wait time was very good. Our server was also very kind. Great experience here overall!
Top tier experience! Highly recommend.
Perfect for a date nice or larger group. Great place to take friends visiting from out of town. Food was phenomenal! We had the artichoke dip, pasta, lamb, macaroni and cheese (made without the lobster for the toddler) and the famous date dessert. Nice wine list. Beautiful ambiance. Great service - our server Bernice was the perfect mix of attentive, helpful and nice. Came for my husband's birthday and will be thinking about it for awhile! Will be back next time we are in Chicago and will tell friends to visit!
European village vibes
We ate here yesterday in the early evening and it was a lovely visit! This place has a lovely outdoor patio that is tucked away in a quaint cobblestone alley. The second you turn the corner and start walking into this alley, its like you're transported straight into a European village. It's very charming and really set the vibe for the whole evening. We had a reservation for 4:15pm and I'm so glad we had a table reserved because it was PACKED already even though it was a little early for the usual dinner time crowd. I highly recommend making a reservation online prior to coming so that you don't have to wait! We had a lovely waiter who was able to recommend some drinks and dishes, which were all divine. We had the vodka rigatoni which was delicious and the shrimp scampi. The only thing we were disappointed by was that the shrimp scampi did not include pasta.... I know, I know, shrimp scampi doesn't *need* to include pasta, but at most other restaurants it does, and I'm sorry but $28.99 is really steep for 6 shrimps in a dish with some sauce and a piece of garlic bread on the side.... I ended up giving half my pasta to my fiance just to make it a full meal. We ordered the sticky date cake for dessert and we highly recommend! It was delicious. There is street parking available but we had trouble finding a spot so we opted for a garage down the street. Overall, lovely experience. (minus the lack of pasta). We will be back because we loved the vibe but probably won't order this shrimp dish again unless they decide to add pasta to the dish or provide more than 6 shrimps....
Outstanding
Great place, great food cocktails and drinks, very nice service. Special mention about the delicious dessert date cake. Overall a great place
Beautiful 1940s jazz club with phenomenal food!
This was one of our favorite spots on our visit to Chicago! The restaurant including the outdoor cobblestone patio were gorgeous. Quaint and fancy both. Dress is upscale casual (especially indoors). Great for adults or families with teenagers. The food is wonderful. Portions are very large (including sides) so ask your server for recommendations on the right amount of food for your party. The sticky date pudding was excellent. And I have never said this before- the side of broccoli with buerre blanc sauce was fantastic! Our server was excellent. Highly recommend!
Excellent
Excellent atmosphere, food and service… get the orcchietti. Ally was the BEST- great recommendations and super knowledgeable.
Rancid shellfish
Avoid this place at all costs. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese and ended up violently sick for hours after eating it. When I contacted Trivoli about the food poisoning, they completely brushed me off, claiming nothing was wrong on their end. After doing some research, I found out that often restaurants will resist admitting fault in cases of foodborne illness because it opens them up to legal action. It is better for bottom line to pretend everything is fine and hope you don't have proof. Let this review make a difference to you: don't risk ending up bent over the toilet all evening like I did. It is a shame the waiters were so kind. I will never be back.
Wonderful dinner
We had a wonderful dinner from start to finish. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, service was attentive. We enjoyed the chopped salad, burgers, chicken pot pie and the ribs. Desserts looked great but we were too full. Will definitely return !
Unforgettable Dining Experience
What an amazing place in the trendy West Loop. The uniquely decorated wood paneled dark and cozy dining room is like stepping back in time but the vibe inside is young, energetic and fun. Service was excellent. Best of all was the meal we ordered. The filet mignon with béarnaise sauce that I had was one of the finest ever experienced. Our dining experience here was truly unforgettable.
Don’t miss it
This restaurant is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and full of great energy. The service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and perfectly timed. Now, let’s talk about the food! We started with the pigs in a blanket, which were perfectly golden and deliciously savory. The Wagyu cheeseburger was next-level—juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. And the shrimp scampi? Absolutely divine! The shrimp were fresh and succulent, and the sauce had just the right balance of garlic and butter. Every bite was a delight, and the overall experience was fantastic. If you’re looking for a restaurant with great vibes, excellent service, and incredible food, this is the place to be. Can’t wait to come back!
A Good Night at Trivoli Tavern
Trivoli Tavern did not disappoint. Started the night off right with a slightly dirty martini, no vermouth, tossed in some blue cheese stuffed olives, and it was spot-on. The vodka martini, shaken not stirred, hit just as hard. Those olives alone are worth the trip. 🍸 It was also great to see my good friend Bryan(plumper), who flew in for the week for work from Seattle. Always good catching up with friends over a solid meal. 💖 Started with some fresh East Coast oysters, chilled just right, and a bowl of New England clam chowder that was loaded with flavor, and hit the spot. 🦪 🥣 The fried chicken dinner was a standout, crispy, juicy, and served with smooth flavorful mashed potatoes and a super unique coleslaw that was nothing like the usual stuff you get around here. 🐥🥔 But the real showstopper was the chicken pot pie. When I saw that bone with the bone marrow stuck in the middle, I was floored. What a move! It was unexpected! 💖 Wrapped it up with the Butterfinger pie, and it was the perfect finish—chocolate, peanut butter, and that signature crunch, with the meringue, the higher, the meringue, the closer to god! Every part of the meal was a hit. If you haven’t been, do yourself a favor and go. You won’t regret it! 🍸🦪 🥣 🐥 🥧 🍖 🧁 💖
Stunning place.
Beautiful place! Clean. Great, friendly, efficient service and food was delicious. The only complaint I had was that the music was too loud, we had to yell to talk to each other.
Super cute vibes in the restaurant and the outdoor space!
Super cute vibes in the restaurant and the outdoor space! All the food was to die for. We absolutely loved the vodka rigatoni, I swear it's better than carbone. The steak frites were so fatty and juicy, and cooked to perfection. The salmon was super rich, flaky and not overdone. And the mushroom casserole is a MUST! Wednesdays are half off bottles of wine which was a very happy surprise for us. Will definitely be coming back soon!
Always love coming here.
First time sitting on the patio and it was awesome. Come for the vibes, stay for the food. We started with the artichoke dip. My husband got the steak frites and I got the fish and chips. 10/10 for food. I'd like to believe our waitress was very busy as at times it took a bit to get her attention but I really appreciated the manager coming over to help.
I live close by and have dropped in multiple times.
You can have a meal inside the main dining room and feel like you're in a mafia movie. You can dine on the patio and feel like you're in Europe. You can grab a seat at the bar in the lobster bar and have a casual bite. So versatile. Get the ceaser salad with smoked salmon. Do it. As a matter of fact also make sure you get the mushrooms side. Sounds odd but these two are my fav things on the menu. The Mac and cheese is great. All of the pastas are great. Get the rolls, why not. Save room for dessert cause the sticky date cake is amazing and massive. The frozen drinks are both fantastic.
Ever since this place was recommended to me by a fellow
Ever since this place was recommended to me by a fellow coworker, I've made it a mission to dine here when I flew into Chicago! The interior had such a cozy and dim-lighted ambience that it felt like entering a different world after spending all day in the West Loop area. Even the pathway leading to the entrance with the cobblestone flooring and fairy lights set up such a romantic atmosphere. I had originally reserved it for myself only but two coworkers ended up tagging along last minute and they wait staff was so accommodating to seat us. The waitress who had seated us was so kind and we ended up striking a conversation because she complimented my tattoo. Shame I wasn't able to get her name but she was so sweet! The service from when we seated to finished was phenomenal - we were always checked in on, were reminded of the dinner specials and immediately asked for any dietary restrictions the wait staff should be made aware of. After ordering our drinks, we were given water and our orders very momentarily. As a west coast gal, the chicken pot pie my coworker had ordered was knocked out of the ballpark! There is a certain midwestern magic added in that just can't be replicated otherwise. Me and my other coworker had ordered the vodka rigatoni and the texture of the cream and the pasta was cooked to perfection, I still think about it weeks after. All three of us finished our meal completely despite being full at the end! A great taste of midwestern comfort food: both traditional and modernized dishes! From the amazing service, warm ambience and delicious food, you cannot go wrong with spending a date night here or unwinding by yourself. Will definitely make another visit when I fly into Chicago again!
Food, vibe, service, ambiance all top notched.
An absolute must is the crab Rangoon. Patio was awesome (poked my head inside and was a different relaxed vibe that I was all for) will most definitely be going again.
Such a beautiful area outside for the summer with the patio
Such a beautiful area outside for the summer with the patio and lobster bar. We sat inside and loved the tavern speakeasy vibe. Our server was great and we loved the food. Not a lot of dairy free choices for me though sadly!
This was honestly one of the best food experiences you
This was honestly one of the best food experiences you could ever find in chicago. Tucked in a cute ally, amazing classy but intimate atmosphere. And the service was great but the food was amazing!!!! Everything we got was delicious. Highly recommend the truffle pasta and the burger was one of the best i've ever had. This dessert with dates was just a perfect ending.
Best Restaurant In Chicago
I’ve been to The Gage. I’ve been to BLVD Streakhouse. I’ve been to Terrace 16 in Trump Tower. This place tops them all. Has a speakeasy vibe. Incredible service. Incredible drinks. Delicious food. Cool vibe. You need a reservation.
Great vibe! Great food.
Loved the fried chicken. Everything we ordered was delicious and waitress was attentive.
My table ordered the vodka rigatoni and truffle bucatini.
The pastas was cooked perfectly but nothing to write home about. The sticky date cake on the other hand.... it was amazingggggg!
As a big fan of hog salt restaurants, I had really high
As a big fan of hog salt restaurants, I had really high hopes for Trivoli Tavern going in. However, it missed the mark. TLDR: I don't see myself ever craving any of the dishes we ordered tonight, much to my surprise and disappointment! The ambience is soo cute so I probably will be back for that reason itself, but with lesser expectations on the dining experience sadly I'll start by saying we had kind and attentive servers all night, so that was not the issue at all. The atmosphere was lovely as well so this review is heavily driven by my thoughts on the food We started with the Parker rolls and whitefish dip. The rolls were some of the most soft and fluffy i have encountered lol and though the truffle butter was good, it just wasn't anything truly remarkable. The white fish dip was on the salty side. For entrees, I had heard such good things about the vodka rigatoni but found myself preferring the 'Hailey Bieber' pasta I can make at home. The chicken pot pie was pretty tasty, so I'm not sure if it was just because I was getting full from everything else, but I thought it wasn't as good as the ones I'd had at armitage alehouse before. I did really want to try the desserts but was too full by the end of the meal, so I will be back to try those! Vibes? Immaculate. Culinary Expectations? Unmet.
Great spot for dinner in the West Loop!
We were celebrating two birthdays on June 20, 2024 and we had an amazing dinner with Jenna as our server. The Cornbread skillet was delicious along with the slow roasted meatball appetizer. We had the French Onion soup, Chicken Pot Pie and Spicy Shrimp pasta that were outstanding. The room is large and can be loud and we sat in the upper area in a booth that was perfect. We were surprised with local homemade gelato with a candle that made the night special!
Outstanding Restaurant where the food is only outmatched by the service
We had a great experience at Trivoli. The staff is simple top notch. I think I only refilled my water once myself with the carafe on the table. Everything was just perfect. The Truffle Butter Bread service was great as were the pigs in a blanket. Our Steak Frites was perfect. The temperature was spot on and that's difficult with a thinner steak. The best dessert we had in the city was the Butterfinger Pie and the Brown Butter Ice-cream. These are not to be missed. The Limoncello was also a surprise. Absolutely order this as a Digestif with dessert. We were celebrating our engagement and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience.
Fantastic ambience, food and service.
Visited for an evening meal with my wife and son. Can honestly say it's the best ambience we've experienced in Chicago so far, real theatre! Italian cuisine prepared and presented par excellence. Would definitely return, highly recommend.
Celebrating husband Birthday
Beautiful vibe ambiance. Great service and delicious food. We sat outside and it felt as if we were in Europe. They are famous for their chicken pot pie, but in May we had the lobster roll sandwich and the fish and chips. Must order the coconut shrimp and hot corn bread.
A solid meal in a cozy space.
Five of us came here for dinner and enjoyed the rolls, pasta, and date cake. I had the vodka pasta and it was good, but didn't stand out from other ones I've tried. The showstopper was the date cake: delicious, sweet, indulgent (you'll want to share!), and so good. I'd go back just to eat dessert. Service was great too! From checking in to paying the bill, it felt like a well-oiled machine.
Cozy and Romantic lighting.
Although my Mom's group met there for brunch, I could see how this place would be a romantic date night as well. As soon as you walk through an alley-like, cobblestone path towards the tavern, you are welcomed by a warm setting. A host will greet you and guide you to your seat. Unfortunately the brunch entrees did not meet the standard I expected for a pricey menu. We had the smoked salmon ceasar and silver dollar hash browns and these thick strips of maple bacon. I wish I could say the food was way better than your standard diner, but the hash browns were hard and not very tasty. The salmon Caesar salad had bits of salmon. The only above par item was the bacon, but can you really ever go wrong with bacon?? The service was good. She brought over a refill of my Arnold Palmer without being asked. To be fair I need to try the other menu items, but the brunch is not worth it.
Went here for an early Sunday dinner and we couldn't be
Went here for an early Sunday dinner and we couldn't be more pleased. Our waiter, Zachary, made fantastic recommendations and helped us decide when we ere in-between foods. We started with the bread which they generously gifted us since we were celebrating a late valentine's day. We also got the meatballs an an app because you can't go to an Italian place and not try their meatballs. They were perfectly in-between the small hard style meatballs and the large fluffy ones. Very tasty and would have gone perfectly In a pasta. For dinner we had the steak and the bucatini pasta, with that we added crumbled sausage. All was excellent. Lastly for dessert we got the sticky date cake. Also fantastic. We've been to many of the cities best Italian restaurants and this place no doubt holds its own. I had to be sire to tell the manager of pur great experience and took a lic woth Zachary our waiter. P.s. if the spelling and punctuation are bad do t blame me, I did it on a phone.
Trivoli Tavern deserves 5 stars for their service.
The wait staff and everyone you encounter is on top of it. Your water glass is never empty, your food is timed perfectly, the waiter was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. The fried chicken sliders were the star of the show last night. The pigs in a blankets were good but not knock your socks off. The burger was way too salty, and I like salt... so that's saying something (hence the 4 star). Fries were good though. Great ambiance as the lighting makes it very romantic and intimate. Would definitely recommend popping in if you have a chance.
The restaurant had great service.
The steak was juicy, perfectly cooked and just incredible. They also have a beautiful dark aesthetic. Comfortable seating as well!
Food and service was absolutely impeccable.
Me and my wife went in on a Monday night. Our server was on point with resetting our plate and silverware in between courses.
I love this place!! The vibes are amazing and love the cute
I love this place!! The vibes are amazing and love the cute alley it is hidden down. Make sure you book in advance because it books up fast. The truffle bucatini is SO truffley and the perfect portion size. I highly recommend the molten lava cake. I love that this place has a ton of gluten free options/ dishes that can be made gluten free. They also have free ice cream for birthday.
i've never seen an italian-asian fusion hybrid place, but
i've never seen an italian-asian fusion hybrid place, but this place hits the spot for sure. i got the parkerhouse rolls, crab rangoons, rigatoni alla vodka, butterfinger pie, and butterscotch(?) caramel(?) ice cream. the rolls are the best dinner rolls you will ever taste. that grass-fed butter is sooo good. the crab rangoons? no doubt in my mind that they were the best crab rangoons i've ever had. they were fried to perfection and stuffed full of filling. pro tip: mix the two sauces together. the rigatoni = superb. they don't shy away from the sauce - each pasta shell is bursting with that vodka sauce. the pasta was cooked to perfection as well & the basil added a nice touch of freshness. the butterfinger pie and ice cream were so decadent. i know i will return, but my dilemma is - do i try new dishes or stick with everything i ordered because this meal was so damn good? the service and ambiance were spot on too! this place is iconic for a reason.
What a wonderful pre-date night spot here in Chicago - the
What a wonderful pre-date night spot here in Chicago - the seats at the bar magically opened up for us as we were galavanting throughout the neighborhood - we ate several sides and enjoyed smart wines and wonderful selfie-taking here! A perfect spot with kind customer service and great host team to help even when its packed!
So glad we took a local's advice and gave this place a shot.
As the beautiful and ornate main dining room and bar were full, we ate in the smaller walk-ins only "Lobster Bar" and sat at the counter. The ambiance was cool, dim and chill. Service was perfect and our food was impeccable. Prices were surprisingly reasonable. We can't vouch for the drinks as Wednesday is half-price wine bottle night and we couldn't resist the temptation of a $56 Margaux. My friend (from Boston) RAVED about the clam chowder! My French Onion Soup was spot-on tasty and, somewhat unfortunately, very filling - turns out I should have ordered it and a salad as a meal. The Steak Frites entrée was unbelievable - possibly the best steak I've tasted in 5+ years. Seriously. The Sausage Orecchiette pasta was really pretty good, but somehow left me wanting something a little richer and cheesier - but after the soup, there was no way I could have finished it. Next time - and there will DEFINITELY be a next time - I will probably go for a different pasta dish. If you are thinking about eating here, stop thinking and just go. On a 10-scale, this place is truly a 12.
Full bellies and warm hearts.
Amazing food and fantastic service. Got the incorrect cocktail by mistake but staff was quick to fix me the correct one and gave us complimentary dessert as well. Loved the vibrancy and look forward to returning next time we are in the city.
Worth the visit
Excellent prime rib. I also enjoyed the bread which I would normally avoid. Lovely atmosphere and not to loud to have a business meeting.
Great food, great atmosphere
What a great place! Really cozy and atmospherically decorated. The music fits perfectly (blues). Our server was super friendly and helpful. The food, the filet mignon, was very, very delicious! Perfectly cooked. If you're in Chicago, this is definitely worth a visit!
Garbage truck in the patio
Food is good but we waited for an hour to get it .. was a Saturday night.. We were outside tables around the corner!!! Big mistake!!!! Around 8 o'clock the big garbage truck pulls in and started to dump the dumpsters for about 20-30 min until we couldn't stay anymore and we left... The stink and the sound of the truck was unbearable Food is ok
Dark & Beautiful
Please try and I mean TRY THEIR COMPLIMENTARY bread with butter! I enjoyed their cocunut shrimp and immensely loved the fact that this was a dark restaurant!
