This is a classic destination for high end Japanese
This is a classic destination for high end Japanese cuisine, even if it's somewhat overpriced. While in previous years there were cheaper options, in Apr 2022 even lunch sets started at $80. Most of the set menus don't have an explanation of what's inside, only photos. In 2012 they refused to translate them but now things have changed.Aburi sushi set came with sea bream roe & marinated smelt fish. The roe was decent - clumped together. The smelt was very nice: fried then served with a zesty sauce.Japanese Black pork was good. It had a sweet sauce. The miso soup was good: on the light side. The mushroom helped. The sushi was served with a designated eating order: left to right. Each had a different topping. Tuna nigiri was particularly good. They provide real wasabi on request.Dessert was not mentioned on the set menu: green tea, black sesame, yuzu or peach ice cream. Peach ice cream was good. Almost all of it was smooth with a good flavour. When the dessert was served, they changed the tea to roasted rice tea, which was a nice touch. There is limited free parking in front of the restaurant on a first come first served basis; 9 numbered lots with a few unmarked ones.
Tatsuya
The sushi is fresh and I like the their shop Caviar. It is very delicious. . The resturant is clean and neat. The staff is very friendly too
Food 8/10 overall experience 6/10
It’s a classic without a doubt and I hope it’s still here in 50 years, fantastic sushi bar food but the prices for mediocre service, ambience and the somewhat dated feel (very 1990/2000) don’t justify the 800-1400 prices. Yes, we visit again, it amazing but massively over priced for the standard of service and overall ambiance.
Way overpriced (now)
Used to frequent this joint some years back - before covid. Set lunches then were reasonably priced at about $45 - $60. Went back recently, and to my horror, the set lunch price has been revised to $100. You would have thought there would be a better revised menu, but sadly, the same old tiny sushi with just some minor additions, and removal of other stuff from the previous menu. Food is nothing fantastic. This is the last time I am going back there. At $100 per set lunch, there are plenty of Jap dining places that serve much better food.
