Sazón Santa Fe Reviews
This place doesn't deserve the hype.
There are a few dishes worth noting that were different like the soups but you can't make a mark by just soup. The service was trying to be top flight in an atmosphere that didn't warrant it and it was out of place. I would save my money and go elsewhere. This is a tourist trap and it's hard to get into. We canceled the rest of the reservations there as the experience was subpar. Rest of food was so so at best. Lots needed to improve. If you need a Michelin restaurant, this place won't be it. Oh and it's hot. Bad air conditioning and rude people at front desk. Get rid of the entitlement and get some air conditioning for an immediate better experience
Absolutely stunning decor inside.
The art work of Frida was my favorite and loved the huge adobe fireplace. The service was incredibly impeccable. So professional and extremely knowledgeable about everything in each dish. The presentation was so fancy and I felt so special. And last but not least, the food was out of this world. I could taste every flavor pairing, the mixtures of the textures were so thoughtful and each dish was better than the next.
This used to be one of my favorite places.
The mole was truly something special--rich, complex, and unforgettable. Unfortunately, my most recent visit left me deeply disappointed and humiliated. We walked to the restaurant in 90-degree heat, so we dressed appropriately for the weather--comfortable and casual. Upon arrival, however, we were met with a look of clear disdain from the host. She seated us, then immediately pointed out that the restaurant has a business casual dress code--but that it would be "fine for tonight." I looked around the dining room, confused, only to see that this supposed dress code wasn't actually being followed by most guests. I couldn't identify what standard was being enforced, or why we were singled out. The experience left me feeling judged and unwelcome before we had even ordered. It's hard to enjoy a meal--no matter how good--when you've already been made to feel like you don't belong. Sadly, I won't be returning or supporting this restaurant again.
Every morsel of food made the clean plate club.
I'm glad I ditched my coworkers for my reservation. You must try every mole! My favorite was the apricot mole and I had that with lamb chops as my protein. Along with the chops came a delightfully light sweet potato purée and a vinaigrette beets? The chef chose the sides and he chose wisely. The sopa de amor was... interesting. I don't think I've ever had anything like it! I'm not a fan of seafood but man, did this plate perform! I was lucky that I took the waiter's recommendation for my drink and had the spicy watermelon margarita. It was sweet, spicy and a perfect pairing for my meal. Overall vibe was classy, upscale, and artsy.

We've lived in Santa Fe for 8 years and have frequented many restaurants. Sazon is the favorite. The wait staff is on point, orchestrating every move to improve your dining experience. The food is always excellent. The soup de amore is an incredible experience as is the dessert symphonic. Everything in-between is excellent as well. If you want an experience with very cool ambiance, Sazon is the place! Thank you Fernando for always making our experience wonderful!
Excellent.
Creative, fresh take on traditional dishes and flavors without being pretentious. Likewise the dining room is upscale but still very down to earth and comfortable. The sommelier, bartenders and servers are excellent. All friendly, professional and helpful, but reserved and not intrusive. Pacing and service is spot on. Very well run and thoughtful, which makes for a pleasant meal. The food is wonderful, so obviously the folks in the kitchen are doing the same. The chef's soup is incredible - unusual, but possibly the best chowder or bisque (not really sure how best to describe it other than basically perfect) I have ever had. A unique mixture of warm and cool, sweet and savory, and the foam has an edge that works insanely well with the cream flavors and crab. Weird and wonderful. Don't pass on the chef's soup.

We went back, and they had a new "business casual" policy, which was enforced inconsistently. We were turned away and told to go home and change or pay $200, despite there people being "less dressed" than us who were seated. (I was dressed in grey Travis matthieu's shorts and a nice blue collared shirt which fit the day's 90 degree weather) Since our arms were twisted, when we came back changed. The chef came out and said "you are dressed really nicely now sir" and I lost it. They apparently also only added the policy 10 days ago (well after we had made our reservation, so there was no reason for us to even expect a dress code!). The fact that the chef came out to essentially insult me on the way out makes what was originally a favorite to something I never want to go back to. The food is still good but the quality and presentation has deteriorated, and there's better in the area for better prices.
Great dinner.
We had the lamb mole, and the pork mole. What a fantastic and perfectly cooked dinner. The service here is perfect and the ambience is fantastic. The only issue was that we ordered the fruit cobbler for dessert, but it wasn't a fruit cobbler. We were expecting fruit with crumble and it was actually just the crumble. Tasted great, but not what we imagined when we ordered it.
This place is a very overrated.
Chef Fernando Olea, best Chef of the Southwest 2022 James Beard Award Winner created a very interesting menu. but nothing really stick to my palate. We started the meal with the tasting of different mole, some are too sweet to our taste. the red mole and green chile are the favorite. there's also an option of icecream before the meal. which i highly recommend you to try. it's a very interesting taste which supposed to open your palate. it contains five flavors. but i think the caramel is a bit overpowering , i was not able to catch the avocado flavor which is already pretty mild by itself. our table of 5 ordered couple things to share. actually nothing really impressed us. Cholula being the weakest, the only one dish the whole table couldnt even finish. I had their chef's signature crab soup, i was pretty disappointed. the combination of cold foam and lukewarm soup makes it not enjoyable, and the crab flavor is very weak. for main i had an appertizer Pulpo as main as i was not hungry. they messed up the order at first and i had to wait while eveyrone else was enjoying their main course. when Pulpo was served , I was very confused that on the menu it says octopus sautéed in olive oil with pork belly and thai chili. i looked through my bowl i couldnt find a single piece of pork belly or thai chili, i asked the waiter about the pork belly, and i was told that the pork belly was infused. (???) what does that mean? that's not called with pork belly , it's false advertising and i was really disappointed. the service was a bit overdone. it was trying to do white glove but they kept messing things up. we were sitting at the corner of the restaurant it was really hot and no airflow because the AC vent was blowing out and no air circulation in our corner. We asked about if there's any fan, the waiter said he will check but didnt do anything or say anything after. our table everyone was sweating the whole time couldnt wait to get out of there. it was a terrible experience in summer.
The soup of love (signature dish) and ambiance are great.
Husband's rice was inedible, and I'm not sure how we felt about waiting for quite some time to receive a menu then a group presentation between several tables of our options. Waiter was not terrible accommodating, but the chef coming by each table is a nice touch.
You MUST try this place!
This place far exceeded our expectations. It was such a wonderful dining experience. They brought out their current molès - like a of flight of molè and paired your favorite w a protein and side. The Sopa de Amor was a great starter with layers of savory, salt, sweet and spice. It was unlike anything I’ve tried and it was delicious. Our meals were perfectly cooked and we enjoyed their signature dessert while we took synchronized bites as Alycin explained the flavors as they hit our palates. So fun! Great service, great vibe, and great food!
Excellent
Best dinner in Santa Fe. 10/10. Best halibut we’ve ever had. Welcoming staff and beautiful atmosphere. Will be be back!
incredible
We were a group of 6 at the 5pm seating. The entire evening was an amazing experience- everything (EVERYTHING) was incredible, from the initial samplings of the different salsas to the cocktails and through the entrees and deserts. It made a wonderful and most memorable evening. Thank you!
5 star, and a great place to put on return list.
This place was fantastic. Food was creative, unusual but very enjoyable. Despite some of the "spicy"descriptions I found food was really tasty and prepared well. Absolutely loved the chef's surprise desert. Service was impeccable and well coordinated, non intrusive and attentive and accommodating. Alycia had a great sense of humor and interacted with us in a way that enhanced our experience. Even the executive chef dropped by to check with us. Best place in Santa Fe by far.
Unforgettable dining experience, worth returning to Sazon
Unique dining experience! This time it was my 3rd visit to Sazon! I return every year! Chef Olea personally comes around the room and checks in on his guests. His care and passion for his menu comes through. It’s like education on a different side of Mexican food we might think we know but we get humbled and grateful instead! His moles are unique and extremely flavorful. Must try! In addition, the staff is professional and attentive, for example, Julian not only assisted us with selecting best wine option with our dinner plates but also paid attention to individual needs, including assistance with a walker and moving around the restaurant. Last but not least- please order the dessert named Dulce Simfonia. It’s incredible and will surprise you with how many different flavors you can taste PROGRESSIVELY within one bite. Highly recommend!
My husband and I first trip to Santa Fe NM
Erica took very good care of us! Loved the atmosphere of art on the walls and how we couldn’t hear conversations from other tables. Great food! The chef is very creative in the preparation of the dishes we had. I had the gazpacho, eggplant dish. My husband had the shrimp enchiladas (very rich).
unforgettable dining experience!
This was an unforgettable dining experience! Our server, Karla, was engaging, spirited, and lead with knowledge. Chef Olea and his entire staff were extremely welcoming, humble, intentional, and service-oriented. We discovered so many unique flavor profiles and combinations. We will be dreaming of the Sopa de Amor until we can return! An incredible must-try.
A wonderful dining experience!
From the beginning to the end our food experience was unbelievable! The flavors of the molés were so unique. The service was beyond great. Thanks Erica for a wonderful experience.
Sazon is a culinary experience not for the faint of heart.
A combination of textures, unexpected flavors, and confident service will lead you to gastronomic paradise. A few standouts: the duck breast and bone marrow were incredible. A HUGE thank you to Julian who took great care of us the entire night. He was a joy to engage with and his passion for the fair is palpable. Overall, Sazon was a wonderful addition to our time in Santa Fe.
A wonderful experience
Excellent food and superb service. Chef Olea personalized our meal and beverage choices to our tastes. A must visit for dining in Santa Fe.
Amazing! Delicious! Unforgettable!
I’m still dreaming about my meal! Each bite was a delight, and the presentation just blew us away. Don’t miss out on trying their Dulce Singonia for dessert. Each mole had its own unique taste with unmatched flavor! I loved them all ( they gave us a flight of each mole to taste ) so can’t really say which one I liked best! Chef Fernando Olea made sure to walk through the restaurant to meet and greet each table. It was truly a memorable experience!
We ate here on a Saturday night recently.
Very busy. We had great service. We loved trying the mole samples. Our server did a great job explaining the moles& all the appetizers and main course. She helped us make choices so that we had a sampling of different foods and flavors . I LOVED the chocolate cake with chocolate sauce. Yummy. This was a fun night and great experience! Highly recommend!

From the moment we sat down to the moment we left, our experience at Sazon was exceptional! The dining room is warm and inviting with interesting artwork on every wall. The service, the cocktails, the wine, and the dishes were incredible. Our server, Karla, expertly guided us through the dining experience. The complimentary mole sampler informed the process of selecting our other courses. We started with the baby grasshopper tacos and stuffed squash blossoms, which were fabulous. We then had the Sopa de Amor, which must be tasted to be believed. The combination of flavors, textures, and temperatures was amazing! For our main course we had the duck and rack of lamb paired with the Mole Negro and New Mexican Mole, respectively. Wow! What explosion of flavors!! Karla guided us through the first bite of our Dulce Sinfonia dessert, which was spectacular! The textures and flavors are stunning. If you are looking for a truly exceptional dining experience in Santa Fe, be sure to make reservations at Sazon.
Everything was excellent from start to finish.
I was so excited to come try this place after so many visits to Santa Fe. The meal started with a sampling of different moles which all had unique and delicious flavors that it was hard to choose. Thankfully the waiters are well trained and can advise which ones pair best with different entrees. Service overall was very high touch and well worth the commanding prices. Food wise, everything was incredible. I started with the Duck Skin Tacos as something a little different - maybe this was the only weak part, not saying it was bad, but I felt the other dishes were better overall. Next came the Sopa D'Amore which is a signature dish and ohhhh so yummy - highly, highly recommend. For the entree I had one of the daily specials but honestly I'm writing this review months later and cannot recall what it was exactly, but I devoured the whole thing. See image. My friend ordered the salmon which I had a bite of and confirmed was also delicious. Overall, fantastic dining experience. Well worth the price and great place for a big night out. Best of all, Chef Olea comes out to greet everyone.
Wow! The food and service was excellent.
Our server gave us the best food descriptions and recommendations/pairings. Our server took great care of us and took us on a culinary journey from start to finish. Our dinner was started with a complimentary mole sampler. Our meals were prepared with quality ingredients. The dishes, although classic, had a nice surprise/touch. We loved the New Mexican mole that we went back to purchase a jar of it to bring back home to share with our family. Lively ambiance and great music choice. Highly recommend restaurant. Be sure to reserve in advance!
Fantastic.
Excellent service excellent and creative food. Cocktails and tequila flights were outstanding. Honestly one of my favorite places to eat if anywhere in the world.

Absolutely incredible reviews and service! We started with some incredible mole's and then moved onto their shrimp which was out of this world and the soup and the rest of the meal was so delicious! The owner even came up to our table and offered us a couple of free soups for the ladies who did not purchase one. Additionally the wait staff was incredible and so kind!
There's no way to describe this place.
Ambiance, food, service. I visit from Arizona and this place was highly recommended and I see why. They get you started with a sampler of they house made moles which will help with the direction of your meal. They don't even give you menus till you try this house made moles. We sat in the bar area and Michael and the guys did such a perfect job. chef Fernando Olea checked on every person sitting in the area, such a great touch Thank you for making my experience one of a kind

We have traveled and lived in various places and have been lucky enough to experience some excellent dining options. Sazon was truly one of the best both in service and quality of food that we have ever experienced! So often in tourist areas restaurants don't live up to their reputation but Sazon exceeds it! What an amazing place! It's on of the best parts of Santa Fe!

After reading the reviews about Sazon, we had to give it a try. The outside of the restaurant is nondescript, but inside it's tastefully done. The menu is full of mouth-watering options. --Suzanna's Salad: Very good and flavorful. --Xochimilco: Delicious huitlacoche, a rare find --Cholula: Good, loaded with flavor --Berenjena: Delicious The appetizer portions are small. The entree portions are more substantial. The prices are high. The service was excellent.
Makes you appreciate someone’s talent!
The minute you walk in the door, it’s an experience you and your palate will never forget! The staff is incredible! I would eat there every day just for the experience ❤️
Wonderful spot for any occasion with excellent food.
This restaurant has some of the most fantastic meals I have ever tasted. The Popocatepetl was cooked to perfection, and the dulce sinfonia for desert was absolutely spectacular, with the most perfect combination of flavours. Our server, Karla, was very efficient and had wonderful recommendations on the food options.
Wonderful experience
The service was excellent, especially our server Karla! The chef was quite friendly as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant and art inside was wonderful. The mole was excellent and the huitlacoche was also a highlight. The food here is genuinely superb. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant!
Fell in love with a one night stand
I had been here once before in 2020 and have missed the tastes like I have missed former lovers. The way this place creates earth shattering dynamic flavors is like nothing I have experienced before or since. On this occasion, I found myself falling in love with every dish. It was bittersweet knowing that the more I enjoyed each course, the harder the break up will be… This is a must experience.
Wonder time at Sazón
Sazón was amazing! Friendly staff, amazing food and spectacular cocktails. Definitely recommend if you are in Santa Fe!
Phenomenal food and experience!
Fantastic food and service!! Karla was a great waitress and the food came out with a dynamical evolution of flavors. Never had such a satisfying experience!!
Paced and Paired Perfrctly!
This was THE dining highlight of our stay in Santa Fe. Eclectic, warm atmosphere that was lively but still obstinate for good dinner conversation. The food presentation was incredible, and every dish was unique and delicious. Above all, we relished the level of service here, and our server, Karla, was knowledgeable, patient, and timely <— she paced everything just perfectly and “read us” well. We were out for our anniversary, and she layered the courses just right, so that we had time to order and pair wines and cocktails. We will be back. What a treat - such a special place!!!!
Delicious surprises to taste!
What a spectacular experience, full of delicious surprises! Loved it! We can't wait to return and try more mole and desserts.
Dinner for Two
Incredible flavors that took me back to my time in Oaxaca and Puebla. The sweet to spicy mole taster allowed us to choose the perfect combinations for our protein choice. The sopa de amor leaves nothing to wish more for. The sweetness of the crab combined with the frothy amaretto top perfectly prepared is for the plato fuerte. Our server, Jordan, helped to guide our beverage and food choices, with options from off the menu options. We had the following cocktails: Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and a flight of mezcales for dessert. The chef was gracious enough to check in with all diners while the front of house manager ensured that all diners were taken care of before, during, and after the meal. More than impressed. This is el encanto.
La sopa de amit
This restaurant is fantastic! The food is delicious, and the wait staff is very friendly and responsive. It's become one of my husband's favorite dining experiences. The "La Sopa de Amor" is outrageously good. Highly recommend this spot!

Starting with the complementary mole sampler was a great start to a wonderful dining experience. We enjoyed the service, the artwork on the walls, the drinks and the amazing food. We also enjoyed watching Chef make the rounds of the tables and check in on folks. My mixed drink and food was outstanding!. Deep flavors, great pairings. I got the chefs special where you pick your protein and your mile and then the chef picks your sides to compliment. I opted for duck with a semi-sweet mole. Chef chose mashed sweet potatoes and roasted beets as sides. It was phenominal.

Service and ambiance were perfect and our waitress was amazing. The food was all excellent and it's a menu for any foodie to love and try new things or stick with more classic dishes. We don't drink alcohol but I had the prickly pear virgin margaritas and it was delicious and their wine selection is excellent if that's your thing. I was not impressed with the chefs chile en nogada dish but it was interesting to try. It was overly sweet and I believe the sauce was meant to be cold but it either cooled the chile part or the chile part was plated too soon... anyway it was a good dish but had issues with execution and I think in the dish fundamentally flawed in its flavors or I had it on an off night. All the other dishes especially the shrimp enchiladas in a delicious creamy poblano sauce- perfect. We had the berries and creme and the "symphony" dessert (cant remember the exact name) it was insanely delicious and complex in flavor.

One of the best restaurants I've had in my life the soup is insane it's super complex and delicious the mole flight is incredible and I got a steak and this was probably one of the best stakes I've had

Your visit to Santa Fe will be greatly enhanced by dining at this fine restaurant. Do not fail to order the sopa de amor and the Symphony dessert. Both are some of the best dishes I have ever had, anywhere. Amazing and delicious flavor combinations. Service and ambience are also tip-top.
Can't really add more than the other reviews.
Definitely try the chefs soup. It just works!! Excellent food, service and ambiance. It is a "must" for any visit to Santa Fe
Such an experience.
BEST restaurant in Santa Fe hands down. A must if your here. The Service was impeccable, the molé flight to start your meal was such a fun way to start off dinner. The food well let's say it's in the top 3 best meals I've had. My husband and I have been reminiscing since we left.
When traveling to Santa Fe, you have the challenge of
When traveling to Santa Fe, you have the challenge of selecting from a range of outstanding restaurants, both award winning, and ones coveted by the locals. Sazon fits the bill for both. Whether speaking with shop owners/employees, Concierge professionals, and even cafe servers, everyone agrees that Sazon, and the food created by Chef Fernando Olea, CANNOT BE MISSED. We were able to secure a table and were welcomed with warmth and a genuine spirit for the love of food and serving to guests. We started unusually with a dolce- showcasing exquisite flavors of ginger, beets and sweetness manipulated into a sorbet that was wrapped in a marzipan textured coating made of these same flavors. The tasting menu is the way to go, allowing Chef Fernando to share in his love of flavors, fish, meat, fowl, and shellfish. The sauces and flavor enhancing accompaniments are really what make these dishes remarkable. The walnut sauce which accompanies a meat dish is decadent, and Chef makes the best mole we ever tasted. We won't ruin how the meals ends, but don't pass up dessert. If you want to make the evening even more extraordinary, allow the sommelier to pair your dishes with fine spirits and wines. A special shout out to the our server, Megan, and of course, to our new favorite Chef, Fernando Olea.
I can't say enough about this fabulous restaurant!
I can't say enough about this fabulous restaurant! Definitely a 5 star experience from start to finish. A warm and welcoming atmosphere with all team members focused on patrons pleasure. Chef-created seasonal specials in cocktails, appetizers and entrees. Truly a feast for the senses! Patrons are greeted by the Chef himself as he makes his way to every table. This is a very special place and definitely a repeater for us!

Sazón is a fine dining restaurant that specializes in traditional Mexican cuisine and recently received Best top 10 Restaurant in New Mexico. Chef Olea creates sophisticated flavors using Old Mexico's indigenous and culinary traditions alongside ingredients from around the world. Chef Fernando Olea, James Beard Best Chef of the Southwest 2022, is originally from Mexico City. He has a unique interpretation of contemporary and traditional Mexican dishes. Chef Olea creates sophisticated flavors using Old Mexico's indigenous and culinary traditions alongside ingredients from around the world. The menu is short but distinctive, featuring fresh and locally sourced produce and meats. My companion thought the Sopa de amor was the best soup he has ever eaten in his life! Wow, that is saying something. This is not traditional Southwestern food, the shrimp enchilada was stacked tortillas with shrimp and not spicy at all. Sazon has won many awards and accolades. Try to get a reservation well in advance of your visit. We reserved for next year!
The food was excellent, but the service was far too
The food was excellent, but the service was far too aggressive. Even after ordering expensive entrées, we were loudly pressured by an upselling male waiter to order an appetizer and I caved in. It was way too much food which caused friction between me and my dining companion. Some of us like fine dining better than the all you can eat trough! My entrée was $65 and came with five pieces of halibut plus a cup of rice and broccoli - no appetizer was needed. We were also asked to pay and leave after two hours for "another seating" (on a Monday night, Dec. 18). I was shocked. We had also ordered two expensive alcoholic drinks each and had barely finished eating. We had not been advised of this requirement when we were seated. The food was excellent but overall this did not feel like fine dining and I will not return.
