Cornstarch and mushrooms.

2/5 by 👻 @Jerome on 08/23/2025

You can pay $800 per person to taste cornstarch with canned mushrooms. Everything contains cornstarch and canned mushrooms, and we ordered quite a few dishes. The rice is overcooked. Maybe find a restaurant that can cook better, especially for the price paid.

Not recommended. Food okay (chicken was good but was the only thing and very pricy) overall very pricey, and service very poor (they bring you the check before you have finished) The ambient is nice as a bit old style but is not worth - not sure why it is in the Michelin guide

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in KL.

5/5 by 👻 @Masmin P. on 07/29/2025

All day "yum cha" dim sum in an upscale setting. It's a little pricey but well worth the experience I think. The fried yam chicken dumplings are well done, and the mango pomelo sago pudding is a must-have. Service is attentive.

Food is ok but extremely overpriced. X5 the price of other dim sum restaraunts that offer the same quality. Skip it! Total rip off!

Old World Let Down

2/5 by 👻 @OtherVisitor on 04/20/2025

This place was recommended to us to get a local experience. The atmosphere is vintage, as was the staff. However, the service was not particularly helpful or friendly. The tea was good, but the food was mediocre and vastly overpriced. The kicker was that I (my mouth) found a rubber band in the fried noodles. The staff seemed unimpressed by this discovery, or at least feigned not to understand. We would not recommend this place.

A good experience for both locals and foreigners

5/5 by 👻 @Peter Choy on 03/21/2025

Talking about traditional Chinese restaurants, there are not that many remaining in town. One of the most famous is Luk Yu Tea House in Central. We have visited many years back, and today we return to Stanley Street to experience the historic vibe once again. Seated at a small booth on the side, the décor is dated but give a good glimpse of the ambience of traditional tea house, with high ceiling and hanging fans, wooden chairs of hard surface, and also the large mirrors on the walls with Chinese calligraphy and paintings while at the same time there are some Western stained-glass panels. A true testimony of how different cultures are integrated in HK. To start, we have Double Boiled Pig’s Lung & Almond Soup 杏汁白肺湯 ($150 small portion). The staff has helpfully recommended us to go for the small portion as it would be too much for the normal serving. The soup is their signature, really delicious with rich almond taste, while the pig’s lungs are washed thoroughly and without any weird taste. With also some dried pak choi and finely shredded mandarin peel to add sweetness and fragrance, it is a must order and no wonder we see almost all tables are having this. Next comes Fried Sliced Pigeon with Ham 燒雲腿鴿片 ($420). The sliced pigeon is fantastic, seasoned well and cooked perfectly to preserve the tenderness. The ham on the side provides some savoury and sweetness, not salty in fact. I also like the straw mushroom and bell peppers added to give some contrast on the bite and making the dish even more delicious. Another dish I recommend. The Braised Frog with Pomelo Skin 柚皮炆田雞 ($360) combines the two ingredients we like. The pomelo skin takes a lot of effort to prepare, and here it is done well, soft and good in taste, without any bitterness. The frog is a bit tough on the bite for me though. With also some shiitake mushroom, the overall taste is still very good but probably is not the most popular dish. The final dish we have is Pan Fried Pork Patty with Lotus Roots 香煎蓮藕餅 ($280). A pleasant surprise, the pork patty is very good, with the lotus roots finely chopped to give a nice crunch on the bite while the patty is pan-fried beautifully to golden brown. Also, it has a milder seasoning than most restaurants, making the patty more refined and delicious. Even after the other dishes we manage to finish all eight pieces. Another must order in my opinion. There are only two desserts available, Walnut Soup 合桃露 ($75) and Egg White Almond Soup 蛋白杏仁露 ($75). The walnut soup is rich in flavours, apparently made in-house from scratch. It is of appropriate sweetness to make us feel fulfilled but not excessively indulgent. The egg white almond soup is equally good, also of the right sweetness. Although we are full to almost bursting, we do not regret ordering these sweet soups. I heard from social media there are some bad experiences on services, but I honestly feel the staff here are all friendly and helpful, serving us soup and refill water in the teapot diligently, answering our questions about lunch booking for dim sum, all without any hint of impatience or dark faces. The bill on the night is $1,637. It is not cheap but considering the quality of the food and the unique experience, it is worth a visit for both locals and foreigners.

Overhyped. Everything is OK at best.

3/5 by 👻 @YT C on 02/28/2025

The food is OK at best. I have way better dim sum in other dim sum house than here. This is very overhyped. Eating here gives you the vintage atmosphere experience that is it. Nothing else really stands out or extraordinary. This is one of those tourists visit dim sum house. I have high hope coming here and left disappointed. They change their manual every periodically. If there is something you want to try, you might want to check with the waiters first.

A pleasant room that has some age and character. The service was fine but the food was poor, surprisingly poor. We’ve eaten well in general during our time here in Hong Kong but I can’t recommend this place.

Recently in KL we had dim sum at Luk You tea house.

5/5 by 👻 @Abe S. on 09/06/2024

We live near NYC and any decent dim sum required a trip into Chinatown or Flushing, Queens. Also requires a long wait almost an hour or more. So this restaurant is high end and take reservations. Food quality and freshness is five stars! Absolutely delicious. The shrimps or prawns as they call them in Malaysia were fresh and had a good snap when you bit into them. We ordered the typical har gow, shumai, rice congee, shrimps with salted egg, etc. food was so good we went twice during our 5 week stay.

Worth a visit for the ambience, but don't expect to get what you ordered!

3/5 by 👻 @prm78 on 05/04/2024

Luk Yu has a classic old Hong Kong ambience, and most of the patrons appeared local. The dim sum is of of above average quality. The main problem is the service ..the waiters are very off-hand, and of the three savory dim sum dishes we ordered only one of the 3 arrived, while one we did not order was delivered instead (a noodle soup). We complained and another was brought - the same as the first one. So we gave up. Price was high, at HK$500.

Very old fashion restaurant for locals and Chinese tourists that should be completely avoid if you want to enjoy a dim sum lunch and don’t want to waste your money, and your time. I love eating and I am not picky but here I literally did not dare to try three steam dim sum that we ordered (please see photos). Except a couple of dishes, the rest of the dim sum had nothing to do with what we were expecting. Please find something else!

Pricey Dim Sum

3/5 by 👻 @BLCOct2013 on 04/05/2024

PRICEY FOR ORDINARY DIM SUM The interior decor of this dim sum restaurant located at Central area of Hong Kong is beautiful. I ordered six types of dim sum and they are tasty. Of these 6, only the liver with meat dish is more unique. However, the price didn’t come cheap. This meal cost about HK 540, which I think is a bit high for the food quality. There are other dim sum restaurants for this price range.

Don’t bother

2/5 by 👻 @Sharon Tan on 01/10/2024

Service was really weird. I was told there is no table available but the other side of the area had empty tables. I saw locals coming in after and sat at the table so I thought it was only for regular customers. After waiting for awhile, another waiter approached and asked if I needed a table and was seated. So strange. Really felt tourists are not welcomed and food is really expensive for dim sum. Not worth the time

One of the best dim sum in Hong Kong

4/5 by 👻 @Merryheart on 08/07/2023

A friend recommended me this place which is one of the most poplular dim sum restaurants in Hong Hong. It is within walking distance from the Central station. They do not take bookings so try not to come during peak hours. The siew mai, pork ribs, beef siew mai, lotus leaf rice were very good. The 粉粿 , 韭菜盒 were a bit bland & underwhelming. Price is on the high side. The dim sum here cost HKD68 to HKD110 per portion. Expect to pay more when you are here.

Refined dining in a gorgeous setting.

5/5 by 👻 @Masmin P. on 07/05/2023

The all-day dim sum menu selection is perhaps on the smaller side but each offering is well-considered and crafted. We ordered the fried rice with salted egg yolk (the salted egg really elevates this simple dish!), strip loin in special sauce, crispy green beans and a number of dim sum dishes - har gau (shrimp dumplings), fried yam kok, Chee Cheong fan, pan fried chicken dumplings, steamed bbq chicken bao - all delicious. Wait staff was attentive and kept refilling our pot of jasmine tea. One of the few restaurants that prepares the mango pomelo sago dessert the way I remember having it in Hong Kong, and beautifully presented too. Great dining experience!

Lovely food and good service in old world charm Lok Yu

4/5 by 👻 @H888 on 06/24/2023

Table of ten casual business lunch. I was hosting the occasion and the restaurant did everything right for me. A good table ready to go for the lunch. They let me set up place card names and the waiters came over to familerise themselves with what I wanted. I ordered for the table and the food came out at a sensible pace (not all at once). Hot water for tea was snappily refilled and the the restaurant had a nice noisy chatter to truly enjoy the dim sum vibe. I’d give all the dim sum top marks. Everything was delicious and as good as I’ve had. The best part is the atmosphere. Old world charm and old world waiters serving good food. What I like most about Lok Yu is unlike many HK dim sum places it’s not overly air conditioned (so you’re not sitting freezing in some foul damp cold air) and the waiters just bring food and clear plates a with a pleasant manner. Not the usual surly smash and bash of many places with plates and slops being crashed into trolleys as you’re trying to dine.

Rude cashier with arrogant attitude

1/5 by 👻 @Belle P on 05/24/2023

My mom and I had a nice day visiting Hong Kong, trying popular restaurants and foods. After we had dinner, we walked passed this tea house which my mom wish to try. There was supposed to be a $7 change. The waiter never brought us the change back. I asked the cashier before we left the restaurant. The cashier, looked at us from head to toes with an arrogant face, saying “our guests never ask for change. It is fine you ask. I can give you.” And then she lazily put out $7, and repeated the sentence several times “our guest never ask for change”. All of a sudden, our money that are supposed to be given to us proactively, become something that she “kindly” give to us. As a global traveler who live in the UK, I reckon this attitude is rarely seen. With all honesty, It is fine that they don’t give change, but a well mannered staff would know how to handle the situation properly. The cashier, unfortunately, chose the rudest way.

Finally decided to come here after hearing some positive reviews. Got in and sat down… an elderly server asked for choice of tea. Asked for the typical blends which weren’t in stock. Server decided to ignore me and serve an expensive blend only for me to find out upon the bill is presented. Food was alright but you can easily get better elsewhere. Don’t bother.

Well worth a visit

4/5 by 👻 @malcs on 09/20/2022

We were recommended Luk Yu Tea House by friends. It is very much a tale of four parts. Firstly, the food. Good but nothing special. The tea was delicious. Secondly, the serving staff were excellent and just a little quirky in a really good way - reminded us very much of the much-missed staff of the now sadly closed American Restaurant. Thirdly, ridiculously expensive for the food actually received but I can forgive that because… Fourthly, and the only reason we would really return, the customers and the atmosphere. You can see all of its years of tradition and why it still exists today. I have never in my life, anywhere in the world, seen such an utterly mesmerising bunch of people in one place. I was the only westerner present and I am not an artist but I would have loved to have been able to photograph all of the customers and staff alike, a truly amazing collection. There seemed to be stories everywhere, from the obvious artists sitting at the next table to the businessman reading his financial paper and the two ladies who were obviously very good friends. The faces were fascinating and the non-stop chatter was like music. I would urge people to go but know this is no cheap local eatery.
