Kirby Café Sumida City Reviews
Rude
I was there on a holiday and wanted to ask if they had a spare table free. When I put 1 step inside a waitress very rude said to me that I had to go outside. Don't go there
Could be bettter
Booked our reservation one month in advance. They send reminders to you via email to confirm if you are coming if not to cancel it. My booking is at 7.30pm and we reached at about 7pm in the cold. The cafe had quite a number of empty tables and I tried my luck to see if we could go in early but was told to come back at 7.15pm by a waiter. We waited outside in the cold and I went up again at 7.15pm and the cafe is looking emptier. However I was told I need to wait till 7.30pm by another waitress. So we waited outside again. When we finally went in at 7.30pm sharp we were showed to the empty table which was already empty since 7pm. Anyway the waitress helped us take a picture with the fork and spoon props. Also told us we can only order our food once and there will be no additional order after. And our food came quite fast. They all looked so cute and delicious but were not hot enough. My favourite is the cheese pizza. It came with a small pot of honey I don’t know why but after I tried it, it was amazing. My husband ordered the car cake (limited to 1 per table only) and celebrated my birthday there. I did not indicate my birthday when I made the reservation so nothing special happened. The hub asked for a candle but was told they don’t have it. There is a small souvenir shop beside the cafe.
I had to fly back to Japan to finally eat here lol
The first time I came to Tokyo, I walked by this, was excited, and then heartbroken when I discovered that you had to book a month in advance to sit inside. That seems to be the experience of most tourists. I came prepared this time though! Once you book, they are pretty particular about timing (no more than 10 minutes late, no exceptions) because of the way the table orders only one time, all at once. My friend was running a bit late and I almost had to order on his behalf. This is in addition to being limited to sitting for 85 minutes - which isn’t as big of an issue if you can only order once, but still. This place is pretty popular, so I get it, but it is a lot of hoops to jump through. Once you have jumped through all the hoops (including finding the cafe, which is outside on the 4th floor of the Skytree mall, by the actual tree and far from the separate merch shop), you are invited in to take a photo with a big plate at the front (I did not). The savory items are Japanese theme park vibes in terms of categories - rice dishes, burgers, pizzas, etc. The Waddle Dee omurice was the one I thought stood out for looking extra in just the right way. My friend ordered the pink Kirby burger (the bun was in fact, very pink), along with a pizza. As far as deserts, we had to get the car cake from the Switch game (which was popular enough to be limited to one per table), and my friend also got the Meta Knight sundae. I also ordered the experiment soda, which made me feel silly but was tasty. When you order, certain entrees can include a souvenir plate/bowl/pizza board, etc. (that they provide seperately, in a cardboard box) for a little more. I got my friend’s pizza board. My omurice was pretty good, my friend said his burger was the best he had had in Japan thus far (high praise!), and he also enjoyed his pizza. The car cake was a surprise in terms of what it’s made of, but was very good. The sundae was a little messy but good. I was a little disappointed that all of the food wasn’t more explicitly themed (the Kirby Cafe Petit bakeries have the Strawberry Shortcake from the games, which is cool and cute), but considering it was all tasty, there’s probably a balance between matching what’s in-game and making something good. You pay at a small gift shop that has some exclusive items but is otherwise the same as the larger one in the inside mall on the 4th floor. If you want a geek out dinner, if you know you have the ability to be punctual, and if you are willing to book a month in advance, this is a good choice for a lunch or dinner. Plus, if it’s not too late, you can explore the Skytree after!
Cute but overpriced
The Kirby cafe is definitely cute but way overpriced compared to other character cafes we've visited and ordered the same amount of menu items. Unless you are a die-hard Kirby fan, I recommend skipping this one. Even die-hard fans could skip this one, too. You can go to the Kirby shop across the hall it has cute merchandise you can even order take out from the cafe and purchase items from the cafe without the added hassle of rerserving a spot. Very annoying that they were out of certain items early in the day. The restroom is quite far from the cafe itself as well. Food was so-so, but I never expect amazing food from a place like this. On the positive side, the music in the cafe was all Kirby themed, so it added to the ambiance, the plating, and silverware were on point for a character cafe.
Great experience!
Very glad we went and everyone in our group had fun. It is a little silly for sure but kids or young at heart will enjoy. Excellent friendly service from everyone. Will need to make a reservation The food is not the best but experience sure is
Can order food to go
We were not able to secure a reservation in advance, so we ordered some burgers to go. The wait was about an hour, so we shopped around the Sky Tree. We ordered two burgers which came with potato wedges and star hash browns, along with adorable containers for around $30.
Cute for families
We were looking for a quirky Japan experience and this was a cute spot for lunch. We made the reservation 1 1/2 months in advance online - they did not accept walk-ins. All the food is Kirby themed and the servers are all very aware that this is an influencer location for taking photos, so they are always willing to snap a pic. It was cute but the food was meh, as you might expect. It's really geared more towards kids palettes. We received 3 Kirby coasters and a pizza plate as part of the meal. Recommend for families and influencers, but maybe not for adult couples.
Lucky last minute
I seen an influencer share about Kirby Cafe and heard you had to book ahead (sometimes a month in advance) . I was lucky enough to jump online and book for that same night (assuming a cancellation) . It’s on level 4 by the way , of like a mall . It’s outside . By the sky tower entrance (hope that helps). They took my photo at the entrance display - I only speak English and they have the process written in English as well , so it’s easy to follow along . Lovely service , patient and happy waiters . The prices were fine for me , I spend roughly the same on food back in Australia but I did get the science experiment looking drink - for the experience really . The waiters talk you thru the steps and its yummy . Like a raspberry lemonade . All my food was delicious . They gave me honey for my cheese pizza, which confused me at first - but it was so good . I did have a half half pizza - but wish I got all cheese and added the honey hahaha . My dessert was good , the cream buzzed me out . It was like mousse cream and sweet . I had like 3 dollops on my plate - I was every happy . Easy to pay at the end - there’s a little gift shop there too .
