Carbone Hong Kong Reviews
Amazing food, warm staff and lovely dining experience
True to its NY routes, the HK version retains the old world Italian charm. The bread is just delicious along with its accompaniments like cheese, ham and pickled veggies. We tried the rigatoni vodka and tortellini al ragu pasta, both were very good, specially the tortellini. We also ordered the rib eye steak and pancetta, and the pancetta was exceptional. They also offered non alcoholic Prosecco which was a nice addition. Finally they rolled in a cart of desserts, we took one of each. The lemon cheesecake is their specialty and was to die for. The chocolate cake was delicious too. The staff was super warm and took care of us exceptionally well. Loved the experience overall.
Great food but expensive with hidden charges
Great food but overpriced Watch out for the water charge - we were charged 156HKD for water and it wasn’t even San Pelligrino….shameful!
Carbone Charisma
Carbone, a delightful Italian restaurant in Hongkong, was recommended to us for a dinner and turned out to be one of the best meals we have had in the city!! Beautifully done interiors, excellent music, courteous and helpful Ms Madhu, an amazing array of Italian food and two superb desserts! The icing on the cake was the availability of a decent lineup of vegetarian dishes along with of course the exotic array of non-vegetarian dishes! Salutes and kudos to the chefs at Carbone as we really enjoyed the delicacies they dished up for us! Meeting THE Mr Jack Gonsalves was one of the highlights of the evening! His friendly and warm persona made the evening even more special and memorable! Thank you team Carbone for a wonderful evening and a gastronomically delightful dinner! God bless
A radiant light from Ecuador.
What can I say, Carbone is what it is because of their excellent food and services. Above all the times I’ve been here however, a radiant star took our attention away from the food. This star is none other than Valentina. From her extensive product knowledge to her genuine service, she exceeded our ridiculously high standards, and managed to wow us. Thank you for the great experience as always, we’ll be back again soon!
Paid for hyped fame
Carbone from New York has always captured the heart of the celebrities with delicious and flavourful italian cooking which earned them a Michelin Star back in 2013. Carbone is thus one of the first brand that black sheep group introduced to Hong Kong in 2014. Just like their America flagship branch, Carbone situated themselves at LKF, the heart of the city. With such renown fame, one could surely understand the excitement we hold for our first visit. —————————————————— ✨𝔹𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝔹𝕒𝕤𝕜𝕖𝕥 𝕨/ 𝕊𝕒𝕝𝕒𝕞𝕚 & ℂ𝕙𝕖𝕖𝕤𝕖 ✨ They go all out with their complimentary bread basket, serving with quality salami and cheese fresh from the cheese wheel, setting up a high bar for coming courses. ✨ℂ𝕒𝕖𝕤𝕒𝕣 𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕒 ℤℤ✨$308 Prepared by the Table-side with a generous amount of Parmesan and anchovies. The gigantic croutons didn’t amplify the crunchiness. The salad is flavourful with that sweet Roman lettuce giving an extra snap. Still I prefer the anchovies ground and mixed as the base of the seasonings. ✨𝕊𝕡𝕚𝕔𝕪 ℝ𝕚𝕘𝕒𝕥𝕠𝕟𝕚 𝕍𝕠𝕕𝕜𝕒✨$278 The signature of Carbone. This hearty pasta is known for it glossy appearance and deep flavour. The rigatoni is perfectly al dente and each of them is coated with the savoury sauce, living up to the origin. As a tribute to the classic italian red sauce, it manages to maintain the acidity of tomato with a mild kick of peppers. Vodka acts as a perfect cohensive to the caramelised tomato and creamy cheese. ✨𝕊𝕒𝕝𝕞𝕠𝕟 𝕆𝕣𝕖𝕘𝕒𝕟𝕒𝕥𝕒✨$508 We are not into red meat for that night so we go for the fish. Contrary to our imagination of classic oreganata in which the fillet should be covered in garlicky, zesty oregano breadcrumbs, it seated on the bed of cannellini beans and herb salad, which are bland and incoherent. More to it the fillet is overcooked and giving the dish a boring and monotonous texture. We are very disappointed with the protein. ✨ℂ𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕠𝕥 ℂ𝕒𝕜𝕖✨$228 Is never a legit celebration without a slice of cake. The swirl cake captured our eyes at the moment the dessert cart presented. A moist, dense cake with a hint of ginger and the exotic scent of cinnamon is soul-satisfying. The frosting is on the sweet side with a beautiful velvet texture. Still if I am here for a casual dinner, I found it extremely hard to convince myself order a $228 piece of cake when you can have the same authentic carrot cake with $90 at Butter, which is also a brand owned by Black Sheep. ——————————————————— We ended up spending over $800/per head for the dinner. Generally the food are overpriced with the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka as the sole highligh so with plenty of decent choices out there Carbone seems to lost their uniqueness in our eyes. The dining envoironment is pretty dim and crowded, hustlers who enjoy a sip would love the vibe but they are just not the spot for intimate moments or people who enjoy discreet. Having said that, their seasonal black series offer is a great deal for diners who wanted to try out.
Good food. But would not probably revisit again.
Good food. Love how the menu is structured. We enjoyed every dish served. Settings and ambience added on to a good dining experience. Service could be more consistent? Some staff were extremely warm and welcoming, while some not so. First welcome at entrance was pretty cold, not sure why we were the only table without the parting dessert when getting the check, manager just chose to skip our table amongst all the others. Its just the small little details that I could not just brush it off, as it is a really intimate and close space setting. Maybe a little more attention to details by the team would have perfected it all.
Amazing Service
The service was exceptional, and the food was just as fantastic. I really enjoyed the nostalgic tunes from the 70s. Thank you for making our evening so special. I traveled from Chicago to celebrate my husband's birthday, and it was worth the travel and set a very high bar for restaurants in Hong Kong during our 2 week stay here.
Overpriced mediocre food wonderful staff
Overpriced food which (other than the vodka rigatoni) was rather average and mediocre. Their signature carrot cake was dry. Caesar salad completely drowning in dressing. Now after reading other TA posts, would agree with the negative ratings. Only positive was the amazing staff service; friendly, helpful and lovely.
Limited choice, small portions and expensive
On past lunch occasions myself and friends had nothing but great praise for this restaurant with its unique decor and tasty dishes. However, that's been thrown out the window after lunch today. The restaurant was roughly half full and we ordered the lunch set. This was very limited as our waiter informed us we could only order one item from starters, main and dessert selection. I informed the waiter it would be great if each customer could pick their own dishes and not just the single choice. My friend wanted to try tiramisu but ended up sharing a single piece of cake. As another reviewer mentioned their lunch sets portions cater for one but you get charged double. Lunch for two was over $1,400 which is in my opinion one can find better value and service elsewhere. Many reviews have commented on the service and portions but it seems management have not improved anything. Fool me once never again!
Great Experience
Great atmosphere with friendly staff and the rigatoni is to die for! Definately recommend people to try, probably not the best place for children.
A satisfactory restaurant
This was a recommended restaurant and I was really satisfied! I visited without a reservation on a weekday evening and was lucky enough to have a meal. I ordered the carpaccio and spicy rigatoni pasta, which I eat the most. I was satisfied with the bread before the meal, and it was even more delicious when I ate the carpaccio on top of the bread. Needless to say, the rigatoni was so delicious that I ate it up in no time. Lastly, I heard that the cheesecake here was delicious, so I ordered it, and I can say that it was the most delicious cheesecake I've ever had. It's not very thick, but you'll know when you try it!! Cheesecake is a must! Next time, I want to try tiramisu and carrot cake.
Limited but great choice
I hadn't been here for many years and I was pleasantly surprised by the old style decor. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I struggled with the choice of dishes, partly because I didn't want to order anything too expensive and simply because not too much appealed to me on the day. The menu isn't extensive either. I chose a beef carpaccio for my starter and a buffalo mozzarella for the main. Both dishes were outstanding.
Delicious food, excellent staff and great atmosphere!
Thanks to Punit and his wonderful team! Unforgettable food- still thinking about the Caesar salad and carrot cake! Really busy but felt unhurried. Buzzy atmosphere and great decor. Can’t wait to come back!
Give it a miss, your not missing anything! Expensive average food, Small Portions
Was exciting to visit this place with my wife, dreaming of the excellent US-style Italian we had in Las Vegas last year at Carmine's, unfortunately, we confused Carmine's with Carbones. For Carbone, we found the food was very average and the price was exorbitant, for a small portion, basically set lunch for two, was more like a one-person set!
Eating Italian food elegantly
Michelin-recommended Italian restaurant in New York, the Italian food is indeed delicious! The environment is elegant and quiet, where you can enjoy delicious food! Carpaccio Piemontese thinly sliced raw Wagyu beef slices fill your mouth with the aroma of Wagyu beef. When you taste it carefully, the texture of the Wagyu beef slices is very delicate. They slide gently on the tongue without any chewiness. This delicate texture makes every bite silky smooth, feeling the beef so soft and tender it almost melts in your mouth. With slices of black truffle, rocket and walnuts, enjoy the richness and sophistication of the food! The sirloin steak is medium-rare, soft and juicy, as tender and juicy as a plate of blueberry cake, it is simply juicy and delicious!
Mediocre totally overpriced restaurant
Completely overpriced, great service, but mediocre food. We ordered a 100 USD steak, that was ok but there are so many spots in Hong Kong that offer so much better food for that amount of money,
An authentic New York Italian experience
Visited for lunch and ordered the octopus starter, rigatoni pasta and meatballs. The food was fantastic (in fact better than most of the Italian restaurants I used to visit when I lived in NYC) as well as the environment and hospitality and attentiveness provided by Punit and his team. As portions are large it’s a great place to gather with friends.
Unacceptable and discriminating service and policy
I am writing to express my utmost disappointment and frustration regarding the appalling dining experience I had at Carbone yesterday. As a long-time patron of your establishment, I have always held Carbone in high regard. However, after the treatment I received on my birthday celebration yesterday, I can confidently say that my perception of your restaurant has drastically changed. Upon arrival, I was shocked to be informed by your staff that I was not allowed to dine in because I was wearing chino shorts. Let me emphasize that my attire consisted of a well-ironed shirt and chino shorts paired with expensive leather loafers. This ensemble is not only smart but also appropriate for various professional settings, including client meetings. It is disheartening to witness the inconsistency in your dress code policy, as other patrons were permitted to wear trainers, baggy t-shirt, cut-out jeans and even in yoga outfit. The blatant double standard displayed by Carbone is both discriminatory and disrespectful. It is unacceptable that women are allowed to dress as they please while men are subjected to arbitrary rules. Such a policy not only undermines the principles of equality but also tarnishes the reputation of your establishment. As a loyal customer who has supported Carbone for years, I expected better treatment and fairness from your staff. The fact that my special occasion was marred by this incident has left me deeply disappointed and disillusioned. Your discriminatory dress code policy has not only ruined my birthday celebration but has also shattered my trust in Carbone as a reputable dining establishment. I urge you to reconsider your dress code policy and ensure that it aligns with principles of equality and fairness. Discrimination based on gender or personal style choices should have no place in a modern society or within any reputable restaurant. I sincerely hope that you take this matter seriously and address it promptly. Failure to do so will undoubtedly result in the loss many others who value inclusivity and fairness.
Unpleasant Birthday Dinner
My friends booked a table for me at 6:30 p.m. for my birthday. I happened to be the only one who had the table on time. I understood how the manager approached me twenty minutes later where my friends were and told me the table needed to be returned at 8:30 p.m. as more people were coming in later. I told them nicely yes, I am aware; thank you for letting me know and messaged my friends who were late. However, that was not the end of them approaching me. I had another staff telling me to order as soon as possible (after 5 mins) as the meals needed time to get prepared, while the manager approached me again that we would need to leave the restaurant again at 8:30 pm and asked me again where my friends are. I finally ordered some dishes on my own as I felt uncomfortable, yet he kept pushing me to order more as he wanted to get the orders from my table done as soon as possible. I watched the table next to me who were waiting for their two friends who weren’t approached aggressively by the staff. By the time my friends and I left, which was 8:50 pm, I noticed several empty tables on our way out, which puzzled me as they were so adamant about kicking us out on time. The food was the main reason I was back as I spent my Valentine's Day (I truly enjoyed that day with my boyfriend), but yesterday, the staff, especially the manager’s rudeness, made me lose my appetite. The loud music at the back with people singing loudly nonstop to celebrate other’s birthdays didn’t help me feel better at all.
Get a bank loan
We enjoyed our night out at Carbone Restaurant (4 of us). The entree we selected to share were very good. The mains we also selected to share, but were very average. The meal sizes are large, so sharing is a better choice. However, you should negotiate a bank loan if you want to dine there.
Crazily rude attitude for a Michelin fine dining place
“I’m joining a friend” “What friend?” I was shocked when I heard this in a rude tone as I was trying to find my friends who are dining in the place. Eventually wasn’t let in because I was wearing shorts in a Hongkong summer weather (this understandable, not the attitude)
