Delicious pasta
The vintage style of this restaurant appealed to us and it made our dining experience memorable. The house-made pasta was delicious and the fried cauliflower was tasty.

Ask For Luigi ended up being one of our favorites in Vancouver. The pasta was everything you'd hope for: fresh, perfectly al dente, and full of flavor. We ordered: * lobster ravioli (special that day): creamy and straight up chef's kiss. * mussels, nduja sausage, fennel & pomodoro: the sauce was sooo good. * bigoli nero frutti di mare, uni butter: rich and well-balanced with just the right creaminess and depth. The space itself is tiny and intimate, with tables packed in close. It might feel a little snug if you like extra elbow room, but the cozy atmosphere and relaxed pace more than make up for it. Even when it was busy, there was no sense of being rushed. It's not the ideal spot location-wise, but honestly, I'd still recommend it to anyone visiting.
A cute little cozy restaurant tucked in Alexander street.
The service is great, and the ambiance is quaint and romantic. The mushroom risotto here is to die for. The wine options are great and the pan cotta is a perfect end to the meal. Its difficult to get a reservation so plan ahead and book a week or two in advance.

From the moment my son and I entered the restaurant the ambiance of this place made for a truly memorable evening. The food was spectacular and the service was as well. Both my son and I loved the small family style made to order meals
Horrible. Obviously will never go back.
LOUD to the point of ridiculous food was terrible. We ordered the olives and bread to start the bread was so dense it was like lead. We then waited and waited and waited for our main. It took so long we just decided to take it to go. An extremely extremely disappointing experience. I give this place six months.
Excellent service and delicious pasta
The pasta was tasty. The fried cauliflower and meatballs were delicious. The sourdough focaccia was perfectly baked and a delight. The service was excellent.

After having to postpone this visit multiple times, I am so relieved to finally come visit this gem. While not in the most attractive neighborhood, as soon as you step in through the door, you get transported to what feels like your nonna's kitchen. The place is small, no wonder reservations come and go like hotcakes. The food was good but our server was a little shocked when we decided to order 3 pastas for 2. We are big eaters, but boy did I struggle to finish everything on the plate. Duck Ragu pappardelle was my favorite, mostly because it didn't seem overly heavy and decadent. 100% will be back to try all their other dishes!
We had such a nice dining experience at Ask for Luigi.
The space is fairly small, but makes for an intimate dining experience. The service was really fantastic, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We started our meal with a Pinot Grigio that was on special that had fruit forward flavors and was very delicious at the recommendation of our waitress. We also had an appetizer with the arugula and fennel salad, which was a highlight for me for our means we went with the mushroom special and the braised beef Campanelle. We ended our meal with the olive oil cake with whipped ricotta on top which is a must. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're in town for a night in Vancouver and suggest making reservations in advance.
Food was great.
Excellent service. The minus 1 star is mainly for the cramped quarters. You have to have reservations, but don't honestly cause there's really no waiting area. You can wait outside BUT...this area is where all the vagrancy is at and the parking is street parking. So, you'll basically be parking right in front of them.

Just had dinner here and the house special ravioli was great! So glad we came. Thank you for a wonderful dinner and a great memory of your city.

When I first arrived at the restaurant, I felt a hint of uncertainty regarding its tucked-away location and the intimate size of the dining space. The cozy atmosphere was initially a bit overwhelming, but as soon as I began sampling the appetizers, my apprehensions melted away. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the creatively curated seasonal menu; each dish was a delightful exploration of flavors, showcasing fresh and high-quality ingredients that truly reflected the time of year. The appetizers were a standout, with each bite bursting with unique combinations that danced on my palate. As we moved through the courses, I was particularly impressed with how our server elevated the experience. Her knowledge of the menu was remarkable--she took the time to explain the inspiration behind each dish and suggested perfect wine pairings for our entrées and desserts. This thoughtful guidance not only enhanced the flavors of our meal but also made us feel like we were part of something special. Every aspect of the service was attentive without being intrusive, and the ambiance was warm and inviting, making it easy to lose track of time. I left feeling thoroughly satisfied and eager to return. Would highly recommend the olive cake and the hazelnut dessert cake with a wine pairing. I was visiting from the US and believe this place is underrated on it yelp reviews for its quality of food!

You should be asking for hot food, because you're probably not going to get a steaming plate of pasta unless you do. Ours arrived lukewarm, which was disappointing. Sure, the flavours were great, but the temperature? Not so much. The room, atmosphere and service were all very good. Everything was grand, except what would soon qualify as pasta salad. I recall thinking that the kitchen was pumping out meals fast! The place was packed. How do they do it! Fact is they are not sending out steaming dishes. Hey, successful franchises like Earls and Milestones incorporate microwaves to speed up food preparation. I really wanted to love this place, but sadly, it's a pass for me next time. It's a common sentiment when it comes to Vancouver restaurants--so much emphasis on flash over flavour, or leaning a little too hard into the "experience" while neglecting actual satisfaction. This marks the third less-than-stellar establishment recommended by the folks at Michelin. At this point, I'm starting to think their true value lies in highlighting which overhyped spots to avoid. Seaport City Seafood, I'm looking directly at you !

My first impression was that this place is in a pretty interesting area. There are definitely some unique characters around so just be ready to see some random stuff while parking. We came on a Tuesday for lunch and got seated right away which was nice. The menu had plenty of options to choose from but we ended up getting the meatballs to start and I went with the seafood uni black pasta. The meatballs were literally the size of my fist, super shareable and really good!! The pasta was something I've never had before and the flavor was sooo fresh! Overall I'd give this place a 4 because the food and service were both solid! Since its close to a more active area with some homeless folks, two came in while we were eating but the staff handled it really well and didnt make it a big deal.
Definitely For The Pasta Lover
WOW what a great feast we had. We enjoyed the sourdough focaccia bread with olive oil and burrata honey with roasted squash and pumpkin seeds for our anti pasta. For main course I had the bigoli seafood pasta, the others in our group had radiatore verde, spaghetti Caico and pepe, pasta del giorno. Each dish was delicious with fresh made pasta and flavourful sauces. The restaurant has been open for 11 years and seats 36. Best to make reservations… don’t wait.
Maybe eat the specials?
We went on Wednesday at 5pm. The waitress was good. We had two appetizers and both were delicious, clams and raw beef. We did not order the house specials that night, but ordered off the menu. Both mains were way over cooked and salty. It was unfortunately disappointing. The bottle of wine helped!
exceptional food and service - best gluten free ever
This quaint and cozy restaurant is a must go destination to enjoy incredible delicious and fresh pasta that will leave you dreaming of your meal for days after. Reservations are an absolute must - and if it’s a weekend visit, reserve a month in advance for your preferred time. While the location isn’t the most desirable-it is by far one of the best pasta meals I have ever enjoyed. What makes this meal over the top amazing for me especially, is that I had gluten free noodles. Yes - why would a gluten free person go to a pasta place? Crazy. - I know…but they offer it on the menu for an additional $5 - and while my family members all heartily ate the regular pasta - I was so appreciative for the gluten free option and then absolutely thrilled with the offered pasta - one would never know they were eating gluten free. It can be so difficult to find good tasting GF foods - Ask For Luigi knocked it out of the park. We shared a Burrata salad to start, and the rest of our table enjoyed the incredible fresh and delicious bread. Two of us had the beef ragu - to die for- and our daughter enjoyed a mushroom special while my Hubby had the bolognese. Everyone thought their meal was absolutely spectacular and we all commented on the rich depth of flavours and incredible freshness. Service was outstanding as far as our Server was very attentive - our water glasses were never empty and she continually checked on our table. The meal took some time to appear - but certainly well worth the wait. The space is small and the tables are very close together - difficult to navigate your way to the bathroom- and the noise level was such that conversations at times were tough to hear - hence my 4 star review. I would think with this incredible level of food and service - it’s time to find a bigger space - but perhaps being small and cozy and limiting the patrons provides them the ability to really focus on putting out exceptional food - quality over quantity. As I write this my mouth waters thinking of the beef Ragu..definitely one of those dining experiences that will remain in my memory for a very long time
Just Desserts
They say revenge is usually best served cold, but the food was piping hot and delicious. Service was wonderful. Will return soon!
What a find!! Delicious food and friend staff.
Looking for lunch in Vancouver and stumbled across this place. Very friendly staff, generous portions and plenty of choice. Absolutely delicious and well worth the short walk out of Gas Town. Highly recommended.
Fabulous restaurant, staff, food and wine.
A fabulous little restaurant tucked away in Vancouver. The staff were amazingly helpful and incredibly knowledgeable about their menu (which is a novelty nowadays) food was delicious - we had the meatballs, tomato and burrata salad and the crab and lobster ravioli. They were fantastic. We’re back in Vancouver on a lay over before a flight to the US next month. We’re certainly returning to ask for Luigi.

My wife and I have been to ask Luigi many times since they opened. Food: always fresh, handmade pasta, great flavors. Service: great personal service with a smile. Ambiance: quaint and clean with a warm home cooked mamas Kitchen vibe. Price: this is the only reason I dropped the rating to a four from a five. I believe the prices have climbed nearing the risk of losing customers which is a shame.
Wonderful little Italian gem!
Great service and amazing authentic Italian food! I would love the recipes! Our waiter was phenomenal! I picked the food and he said that is my favorite!
Food was delicious.
Server was very attentive. Lots of gluten free options for appetizers, pasta and even dessert!
Ask For Luigi was the greatest food experience of my life.
The absolute BESTTTTTTTT pasta. The service was impeccable and the ambiance was beautiful. My Husband of 8 years Parker Mcleod proposed to me there last night. BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!!!! And I think i''m PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!
Had a lovely and cozy early birthday here.
The food was really good. My partner had one of the vegetarian pastas and I had the bolognese. Personally prefer the vegetarian. Service was also good. They added a little candle next to the dessert for my birthday, which was a nice touch.
Very cozy romantic place for dinner.
The place is constantly busy and full so reservations well in advance are a must. The food is all freshly made in house with fresh local ingredients. Everything tasted divine and they had excellent service. We never had to ask for anything and they were on top of it like replacing plates, cutlery and even wiping off our table. I'm just sad that we ordered a couple of their weekly specials and totally forgot the name of the dishes. But these little fried cheese balls with peas were just perfection. The location is unfortunately located with a lot of homeless people around and open drug use. It felt unsafe in the neighbourhood. The price of the food is also on the higher side of dining in Vancouver which could be argued to be quite high for pastas. But I feel they do put a lot of detail into their dishes so your perception will be that of your own. We will be back to try other dishes soon. Definitely will be back to try other dishes!
The BEST pasta in Vancouver! A small hidden gem near
The BEST pasta in Vancouver! A small hidden gem near Chinatown, and service is great. They specialize solely on pasta. Fried cauliflower was delicious to start with - the aioli was so good. We tried 3 pastas, one of which was a seasonal item, the malfadine. It is topped with freshly shaved black truffles, and each bite was phenomenal. It is amazing how each pasta is chewy, and cooked perfectly al dente. All their pasta sauces are light, while delivering all the fresh and bright flavors. I will definitely be back and could not recommend this place more!

Food: everything was fantastic! Favorites at the table were rigatoni, cheese ball appetizers (seasonal menu item), chocolate tort, and risotto. Very favorable and fresh! Service: 10/10, everyone was so friendly Ambiance: small and intimate. We had a party of 5 and arrived about 10 minutes before opening and was able to be seated.
delicious pasta! amazing ambiance! intimate small dining
delicious pasta! amazing ambiance! intimate small dining room. excellent service! would definitely go back.
seriously one of vancouver's bests.
pasta tastes fresh, and the flavours are so unique. feels like i'm transported straight to italy.
Tried this place out about 10 years ago and made
Tried this place out about 10 years ago and made reservations ahead of time (def a lot more availability on the weekdays for lunch). It's a small restaurant and looks like it received Michelin status in 2023. It is located in questionable area, but we didn't feel unsafe, just a lot of homeless people and some people doing drugs in broad daylight as we were looking for street parking. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We ordered Focaccia & Olive oil, Radicchio & Gorgonzola salad, Rigatoni, Bigoli Nero di MAre, Radiatore Verde & Mushrooms, and a couple cappuccinos with Amaretto shot. The food was really good and had sophisticated flavors. The food quality was great where it mattered. The bread was a bit hard and wasn't the best, but not enough to dock any points.
Amazing food and super cozy ambiance.
I got there right when they opened and the place was empty but quickly people started to trickle in. I had such a wonderful meal. I started with the arugula salad and they were nice enough to make it a half portion. I also had the pasta of the day. So delicious I forgot what it was called but so delicious. The pasta was so perfectly cooked. It had a bite to it. I usually feel super full after eating pasta but I didn't feel like that afterwards. I actually had room for dessert. I had the olive oil cake and it was amazing. Overall super amazing meal.
Loved this place.
- it's tight in space - but worth it/ food is great service rocked too
Everything was perfect and as advertised, pasta was home
Everything was perfect and as advertised, pasta was home made and I loved it. The server was next level and I would highly recommend
Absolutely loved this place.
Everything on the menu is delicious especially the arugula salad (sounds boring but I promise don't skip it)- it's like an upscale Caesar that we talked about for the whole meal. We tried three pastas and the standout was definitely the duck ragu papardelle but you can't go wrong with any. We may skip the verde mushroom next time just because it was the least favourite of the three just to try something else. Would skip the olive oil cake as we didn't fancy it but we heard great things about the other two we didn't try so we absolutely will when we come back. The service was SO attentive, my water glass was never empty and they weren't too intrusive when asking for feedback either. I really would travel far and wide for this place and will recommend anyone to get a reservation as it is small and packed. Always a good sign.
Been waiting forever to come and wow.
. was not disappointed. The service was great. The restaurant was cozy and intimate, perfect for our Xmas dinner. The way my bf and I ate.. literally every bite we took we just sat in silence and nodded our heads like ".. yes.." we didn't want it to end and even considered getting a THIRD pasta LOL my expectations were super high, and they were definitely met
Everything we had here was absolutely delicious! Came here
Everything we had here was absolutely delicious! Came here with high expectations after seeing this spot listed as Matt James' (The Bachelor) favorite place to eat in 2023, and I was still completely impressed. Service from our waitress was also impeccable! My favorites from the night included: - Arugula & fennel salad - so simple, fresh, and delicious; lemony with a bit of crunch from bread crumbs - The FOCACCIA that comes with the mussels - Pappardelle - Chocolate torte Make sure to make a reservation if you can because this cozy restaurant only has 15-20 tables. If you go early, you can put your name on the list and head to grab a drink nearby.
Very pricey, but excellent.
We visited Ask to Luigi for a special occasion, and it delivered. Food: 5/5! My favorite dish was by far the seafood pasta. It contained briny seafood and uni sauce, over squid ink pasta. The chicken liver, rabbit, and mushroom pastas were also great. I loved the and noodles and sauce flavor depth in each of these dishes. Atmosphere and service: 4.5/5. It's pretty loud in the restaurant, and sometimes I struggled to hear the waitress over the neighboring conversations. However, I love the lively vibe and mood lighting -- the decor is chic and intimate, while remaining classy and modern.
We had an amazing lunch here.
Our server was fantastic. The vibe of this restaurant is like eating in someone's home-but in the best of ways. Homemade pastas and sauces. The best. Period. I think we ordered all the desserts. Haha. Really, really perfect. I was visiting Vancouver from Los Angeles and I felt like I found a Vancouver secret. Yup. Telling everybody.
Excellent food, possibly the best Italian food I've ever
Excellent food, possibly the best Italian food I've ever had. The ambiance is warm and cozy, the service is top notch. You feel really cared for. It's one of the few places in Vancouver where you feel you've gotten your money's worth.
Amazing meal with an amazing staff.
Super awesome experience. The perfect blend of fine dining meets casual comforts
Not impressed, to be kind.
Above average food, but totally appalling wine stemware & service. Uncomfortable, crowded seating. Not at all sure how/why this establishment received anything close to a Michelin recommendation. Way overpriced.
Beautiful meal in intimate location
My husband and I ate at this restaurant while visiting Vancouver. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Dinner was absolutely amazing. We had burrata to start. I had the gluten free pasta bolognese- which was honestly the best gluten free pasta I’ve had outside of Italy. Lovely panna cotta for dessert. The service was also impeccable. The only criticism I have for the meal was that I was surprised to see a charge for bread per person - we never informed or asked about this. We were also charged for sparking water per person. It would have been nice if this was listed on the menu. Just feels like this is a bit much considering the prices of the food. I would still highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was very disappointing.
This place is so over-hyped. The gluten-free noodles were good but the lamb ragu was not a good ragu at all. The service wasn’t great and the prices were far more than the meal was worth. The aperol spritz was $15 and was served as just one of those pre-mixed bottles with a cup. I never usually complain about a restaurant but we went for my mum’s birthday and left feeling very very disappointed.
Fantastic food, drinks and staff!
The most cozy and wonderfully romantic restaurant, excellent food and staff, and incredibly tasty dishes! They have an incredible drinks list too. We went to many restaurants on our vacation and this was by far our favorite! We cannot wait to go back!
Always as perfect
I can't resist congratulating this small eccentric restaurant for its incredible Italian cuisine and even in Italy... teamwork, nice welcome, snobs abstain... Italian cuisine revisited by a chef and his brigade: ricotta with Agen prunes, tagliatelle with carborara with an ooché egg... Excellent chef, always as excellent restaurant with a simple and efficient welcome,,,
Trendy and Delicious
Trendy little restaurant that you definitely should try!! They were accommodating and we were able to get a table without a reservation. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. I had the rigatoni a la bolognese and it was delicious.
Brilliant
Excellent service and amazing food to a reasonable price. With no reservation on a Saturday night there was about a 90 min wait. Just left them a number and then got a text when it was time. Since there are several nice places to get a drink in the area the wait wasn’t a problem.
After reading reviews online about the homemade Gluten Free
After reading reviews online about the homemade Gluten Free pasta - I decided to wander in here with a friend of mine when I was in town. I did not make a reservation because they said online they encouraged walk-ins. We walked in a couple minutes after 5pm as a two top. We got the last two top. Our server was amazing and educated. The space is quaint and homey. The tables are cramped but spacious. This is a legit homemade meal feel. We shared an arugula salad and I ordered the Wild Boar Ragu. I was assured everything was Celiac safe and the food was bonkers incredible. Eating here was an experience for us. We absolutely loved it and I would encourage anyone who loves pasta and wants a small homemade Italian meal to visit this place. Bravissimo!
For being so popular, not sure why.
I kept bumping the gentlemen next to me because the tables are so dang close (less than 12" apart). Zero ambience, just a room full of people. Service was okay. Server didn't welcome us, ask us if we had been in before, or go over the very small menu. She did state specials, but to be clear I still don't know what her name was. She coursed our food appropriately, but at the end of the day, I don't recommend and won't be back.
Such a lovely restaurant with great service and delicious
Such a lovely restaurant with great service and delicious food! Be sure to make a reservation because this restaurant is full at all times! We stopped by for lunch and ordered two pastas and dessert to share. We got their most popular ragu pasta of the day and the rigatoni alla bolognese. The pasta were made fresh in house and perfectly cooked. The sauces were rich and delicious. The panna cotta had a great vanilla bean flavor to it and was the perfect texture as well!
